Why do these conversations always get sidetracked by someone trying to justify copyright infringement (i.e. theft of intellectual property), or at least to minimize it, as if that makes it sort of okay?
I'm no attorney but it seems to me that the case cited previously isn't relevant, since the appeal of theft charges stemmed to the records pressed by the copyright infringer as physical items. The copyright infringement charges were never contested, and that's what applies here.
Further, I refer all back to the Forum Guidelines. I hinted at that earlier, but it seems not to have made a difference. Any conversation that violates these guidelines will be locked, deleted, or if they continue will result in infractions or bans. The sad part is, this closes what could have been a very productive conversation for the OP.
This conversation is over. Copyright infringement is wrong, no matter what. And downplaying it, or implying or suggesting that we go back to a "don't ask, don't tell" or "hope no one notices" kind of practice is not a conversation that is welcome here. Buy a license, get permission... whatever you do, do it legally.
