Godfather Scene

Ok,
I have a scene in my short film where four or five guys are sitting around a table. You can't see much around around them because it's in almost total darkness. Only the table and them are lit. Think of the opening scene in the first Godfather when Amerigo is talking to the Godfather about whacking someone. My question is, what settings on the DVX should I use for this type of situation? Any feedback would be great.

Hi there,

Dark room, and then light the people and table, not for the faint of heart, cause you've gotta control the spill of the lights. The trick is not in Camera, it's in the ligthing technique.

I would agree...

I dont think there is anything "in the camera" that would make up for this.

Sounds like a good situation to use a "chinese lantern" type of light.
Hang directly over the middle and scrim the spill.

well he could raise the master ped a little. that might help black out he background, but its definitly a lighting thing. the camera settings should only be used to assist lighting technique
