God watches HDTV!

Ok, so I have finally decided to buy an HDTV and I have to say that I now detest SD tv. I've bought a 40 inch bravia and the freaking thing is absolutely amazing. I've spent the weekend testing it and I don't ever want to watch SD tv again. I've downloaded some Full HD trailers from apple.com and the image quality it's just beyond words. I've downloaded the trailers that I have though could be more "HD impacting", like 300, The Dark Knight, Wall-E and The Spirit. What can I say...it's like you're IN THE MOVIE! I've also watched Twister (which I don't like but I thought it would be impressive on HD) and I am Legend. Boy, it's just plain freaking incredible. I've watched some HV20 and Xh-A1 footage and it was so good that it made me want to cry. What can I say, I'm addicted to HD and I have no doubt that as soon as the prices drop on the newest big ass LCD (70 inches and stuff like that) I'm getting one of those.
As a tip for anyone with an HDTV I would advice getting the Conceptronic Grab n Go Full HD media player (around 200€). It's an amazing player that allows you to connect a hard disk via usb and watch all your movies. It reads every format you throw at it (mkv, quicktime, avi, divx, etc) and it allows you to select between a bunch of options like pal, ntsc, 720, 1080p, 1080i (50, 60, etc).
To sum it up...all hail HD!!

You're killing me. All I've got to watch HD footage with is a stupid little 13" tv. Heck, my laptops monitor is bigger than my tv.

Wait, ....I'll trade ya. :)

Dude, just do it like me and convince your self that food, water and heat are not as necessary as you may think ;-)

if you think a bravia looks good....

See if you can find a SONY XBR rear projection 1080P... it makes the LCD's look like standard def....

I got a Samsung 46" with new surrouond sound system, then it turned out something was wrong with the TV so Samsung bumped us up to the 1080P version and it's fantastic. HD Channels are so clear and the 5.1 surround is amazing, I find myself turning around because I think I hear something in the house.

I almost bought this SONY rear projection model. The reviews on it were outstanding. I was going to get the 60" model but I chickened out because of the bulb issue and also because SONY have backed out of the rear projection game. But mostly because of the bulb issue.

I wound up getting a 56" Samsung DLP with an LED engine....so no bulb worries and its a gorgeous image.

Having said that, if money was no object...I saw a recent version of the SONY (I think it was a Bravia) with motion enhancer and WOW. I couldn't afford it (46" was $3500), and that motion enhancer is somewhat gimmicky but its ability to alter the image...made the movie it was playing look like a theatrical stage production. Not good for movies. BUT...its ability to alter the image that much with a flick of a switch...WOW. And I can only imagine what that feature will do for FOOTBALL GAMES.....

Wow, am I the only one here who can't afford the top of the line?
:)

Finally bit the bullet about a month ago and got a 47" Vizio HD set from Costco.
I cant' complain one bit - and it didn't kill me financially.

After about a year and a half of shooting HD footage I can finally watch my stuff on a decent sized screen.

watching sports in hd is unbeatable. i can't wait till these 70' monsters come down in price. maybe in 5 years i'll be able to get one that big. :)

This is exactly what I have and I love it.
Compliments of Sears card.
Moved my Vizio 36" 720 to my editing suite.

And the Vizio's are the top end ...

of the low end :)

You aren't alone Luis, we ended up getting a 40-something Phillips flat screen from the local Rent to Own place. The ironic thing is, aside from my camera, we don't have an HD source... yet. When we move in a couple weeks, I think we'll go with the HD package from Brighthouse since it is only a couple dollars more.

I waiting a few more months, I don't want to get anything smaller than 52"

Well excuse me! Just kidding! I would have liked to go with something like this, but the 720 46" was on sale for a great deal and then we ended up having them give us the 1080 so that became a REALLY good deal. I like it plenty, nice crisp image with fantastic brilliant colors.

...on finance of course! gotta love that plastic card *plastic card, hmmmm*

You want kind of bugged me, when here in the UK, companies was pushing 720P TVs, there was this initial rush, then of course lots of people was thinking (this HD aint all that, considering PAL is 576i, going from that to 720 its not that big a jump)

now they have wheeled out "Full HD" ! alot of people are like "argh!", and I'm like "told you so"...

You think that's bad?
We still don't have cable.

I'm probably the only guy I know with a 47" HD TV that has rabbit ears hooked up to it.
:)

All the local stations broadcast in HD though, and it looks great.

That's not too bad, we didn't have a DVD player for the longest time. In fact, we had one in our car well before we did in the house. Then we bought the new system and a nice DVD player with it...then BluRay came out. DAMMIT!

I lost

Plasma has better contrast ratio

To my surprise I spontaneously bought a 50" plasma TV made by Samsung a few months ago when I moved into a larger place. I had a budget of 800 for a new LCD TV, butu saw the 50" plasma on sale for 1200. I had to take it.

Beautiful picture, the blacks really are black. SD looks better too.

Nope, I'm still on cartoon flipbooks.
