Hello

A friend has just purchased

3 x Go Pro 3 Hero Silver cameras and an ATEM mixer.

Does anyone know how to set this up for multi-cam streaming?

All info appreciated

Thanks!

I use a GoPro often with my ATEM as an extra angle. Key is to have the GP's hooked up to a constant power source - I use a 10ft USB cable with wall charger. Then you'll need to get it hooked into the ATEM - I use HDMI (micro to full-size), which usually comes in 20ft lengths at the max. You can also look into HD-SDI adapters for longer runs. I've had problems using HDMI extenders with it or even a micro-full adapter and then HDMI cable. Seems the set-up is most reliable with just a single cable and no adapters in between - though this will obviously limit how far away from the switcher they can be.

Next up make sure that you go into your settings on the GP's and set them to loop record. Whenever you use them with the switcher they MUST be recording, and loop mode allows them to go on continuously re-writing over previous data so you don't need huge cards. This is because the GP's will drop to a standby mode if not recording that is essentially a super-low-rez preview upscaled to 1080 - make sure you remember to do this as it can be hard to tell if switching off of a small monitor, but it makes a huge difference.

Happy to answer any other questions you have - the ATEM is a great product and quite incredible for the price compared to anything else on the market.

Hey Nick

Thanks for the useful info! I also got this from ATEM tech support. Do you agree with this? Please advice on your experience with settings too. Thanks again....

To be able to get the GoPro cameras working with the ATEM production switchers, the settings on the GoPro must be 720p100, with the ATEM set to 720p50.

I do not believe that the GoPro cameras support 1080i.

The 720p100 video format is what has been reported as working with the ATEMs. I do not believe other video formats out of those cameras are currently working.

Sorry for the late reply - have been offline on a project as of late. Have not run this set-up in a couple of months but I believe that the Hero 3 DOES support 1080i. If I'm not mistaken, when I last used it I was shooting 1080, 60i, cutting between the GoPro and FS100's. I do not believe 1080p is possible with the GoPros however.

If you want progressive frame rate, 720p may be the only option.

Lastly it looks like you are working in PAL, and I'm in NTSC land, so that may make a difference in which formats are/aren't supported.
