F3: Go from F3 and EX3 to FS700?

The FS700 firmware update also adds SLog2.

I think it's been noted in the thread that the new FS700R includes that firmware.

I've shot with FS700, FS700+AXS5, as well as F5 and F55 with and without the 4K recorder. I personally would still take the F5 over the FS700 and rent the 4K recorder when needed. I also believe that we will see the F5 either by firmware update or model replacement with internal 4K XAVC. And that still allows sufficient differentiation from the F55 by virtue of the global shutter and expanded color gamut.

I've written favorably about the FS700 since it does deliver a great image. I personally just don't like the feel of it.

from my point of view the investing that could be done - Odyssey7Q. seems like its going to last for a long time, plus will give you advantages that u cant have now 4:4:4 60p, plus 7.7` high quality oled ips monitor. You could sell your black magic, as well as your marshal monitor (or the one u have now), - i think Odyssey7Q could be ordered just for its monitor......

I already have a Hyperdeck shuttle 2 and an Atomos Samurai Blade.

The camera thing has more to do with getting the job. If I only had my F3, which I charge more for than the EX3, I couldn't do certain jobs due to the higher cost of that camera with lenses and such. There's where the EX3 kicks in. It's my budget alternative and I get the job. I could charge less for the F3 and shoot everything with it but then again why would a client pay more for the F3 once I've lowered my rental fee one time? In that scenario I would be better off having the least expensive camera and always charge less for my camera equipment. That's the bottle neck.

I have a spread sheet with all my equipment all in all about $78000 worth. I run a business model to get the investment back in 1 to 3 years depending on what item it is. It makes no sense lowering prices because that would only result in a loss and I'd be better off having just my 5Dmk3 or similar priced camera to bring to a shoot. That's why I can't fit a F5 or higher priced camera in my budget. I wont get that money in return and just end up with a loss.

i get what you're saying, but how much of a hit would you take selling the f3? and then how far does that go towards the purchase of the fs700?

i have an ex3 and f3 as well. i can't see getting rid of them for an fs700, either in terms of cash or shooting. since i can't justify the cost of an f5, i'm going to stop incurring new depreciation losses for now.

All good points. In my mind it sounded like one way to go just having a FS700.

With all the great input in this thread I now see another option - to keep my two cameras and get another one. A used FS100 for the budget client. I've put time and money in equipment that can be used regardless of camera so another cheap body that can be put to use without buying additional stuff sounds good to me.

It is becoming a really interesting time, a lot of cameras were released three years ago or so, AF100, FS100, F3, Scarlet.. they are now hitting the used market and opening many interesting options..

Ive gone the other way from Ossland and just scored an F3, and will be relegating but keeping my FS100

Now that the FS700+7Q is real and is being used how would I look upon it today?

As I can see the FS700 has the lovely s-log2 and about the same DR as the F3. Thus the camera by it self looks very much like the F3/F5 in terms of pure image quality ungraded. With the 7Q and 2k/4k is there really any difference to the F5?

I might sell my FS100 and get the FS700 instead. But I'll wait a while longer to see what happens at NAB this year. One can dream of a new FS camera with internal 4k, high fps and 10-bit...
