GLOW - danceperformance

merce cunningham meets mathew barney meets david lynch.

that was nice. do you have full coverage of one of these performances? also, what context will this promo be shown in?

takk.

37 seconds is amazing......

But here lies one of the problems im having. The performance is a single piece of art. but the docuemntation is shot stylistically, and therefore seems to be a different work because of the editing.

I get into trouble with this in my own performance art, and the video documentations i make.

Not so much Matthew barney. Hes less about dance, and more about the body and sculpture. His films are a just a vehicle ot showcase his sculptural works that are for sale.

gonna have to disagree with you on the barney timur. his films are the most interesting current time-based works i've seen. i've heard a lot of people draw that conclusion, that his films exist only to showcase his sculptures. not sure how people can say that. his approach to the narrative structure is so increadibly unique, and his understanding of image, context, presentation, rhythm, sound, and so many other things challenges my preconceptions of the medium. anyhow, i made the comparison because of the costume design and choreography.

good 'ol norwegians.

His cremaster series was good, but now hes just broken record. Drawing restaint and that carivale piece was not fresh enough for me. He found his niche, and he has his collector base. He is keeping them happy.

His retrospectie at the Gugenheim was increadible because of the way he tied it all togehter. But i dunno im just tired of him.

Loo up the artist that represented Norway in the Venice Bienale. Her work was AMAZING. it was much smaller in scale of course but far more textural in its concept. IT was all about trolls and HAy stacks and mud.... it was beautiful.

I filmed this with a stylistic teaser in mind. The original teaser is 5 minutes. I made a shorter for web screenings. The teaser is part of a promo dvd the dance company uses for marketing.

Takk selv.
