Hi there,

just finished this project where we did a documentation/image film on the deployment of a US Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to Germany. The UAV did some demo flights here as the German military considers buying one.
All the UAV and aerial shots are Super 16 mm (shot mostly in 75 fps with an Arriflex 16 SR3), the interview sequences were shot with two DVX-100E.
Careful, the file is approx 30 Meg!

I'm very interested in this- I'm shooting a project on S16, but am considering doing the interviews with the DVX and the anamorphic adapter. Did you have any problems with that configuration? How does everything match up when using a pro monitor to view (as opposed to our window into your project)?

Steve,
the sequences shot on S16 had very different "looks" as weather an time of day varied a lot. That's why we chose
to grade these sequences more "movie-style" and rather hard.

The interview shots have a different look, this was intentional.
Other than that, there were no problems combining the material.

Hi, how did you get such shallow DOF with the DVX interview shots? or were those heavily modified in post?

we worked about two weeks on the preparation (skript, shotlist etc.), had five shooting days, one day telecine
and 10 days in post (6 days Avid, 4 days Inferno).

During shooting, we had to be very flexible and adapt to
the flight plan of the UAV. You also get only one take during
takeoff and landing (difficult to ask the US Airforce to abort
the landing, turn around and come back 10 min. later).

The demo campaign lasted 3 weeks and the Airforce allowed the shots out of the helicopter only a few hours before the last flight.

By the way, the shallow DOF in the interviews was achieved using a prototype of the P+S-Technik Mini 35 adapter for the DVX.

Very nice. I would have loved to have seen some of the other shots with the DVX. (Just for fun?) ;)

Very nice production, ediing, music, etc.

Das war eine Superleistung. Der beste Dokumentarfilm den ich je gesehen habe von der DVX. Gratuliere Dir recht herzlich. :)
Mal schauen wie lange es geht bis sie mir den Kopf heiss machen weil ich Dir in Deutsch geantwortet have.............. he he he :p

Can you give us any details on the prototype mini35 adaptor? (we´ve been discussing at length on these boards how to make a proper one)

Hey.. great looking video. The extrior shots a very techie looking. HOWEVER, the 3d logo graphics elements are waaayyy to cheesy and don't match up to the rest of the video nor the soundtrack.. see if you can bring the logo up a few notches.
