Hey everybody!

I shot a bunch a footage at 720/24pn and imported it via P2 import in FCP 5.1.4 on a PB 1.67. When I dropped the footage on my 24p timeline I noticed a few of clips wanting to be rendered and thought it was quite odd...

Well... it was. the clips in need of rendering imported as 2FPS, 11FPS, and 18FPS.

I posted about this same issue last month but back then I thought the problem was isolated to clips that spanned to P2 Cards. I had shot some "vacation" footage with a borrowed card so it wasn't critical footage.

Now I am on a real shoot using just one 4gb P2 and have 4 unusable, unretrievable clips.

What to do?

Electricpig suggested it maybe a header issue and to try using Cinema Tools to change the header info but Cinema Tools was unable to repair the clips.

Since no one else is reporting this problem I am wondering if there is something wrong with my... camera, card, computer, FCP??

Any suggestions?

Thanks for you time!

First, try putting the card back into the camera and do a repair clip operation.
Always write protect the card when inserting into another device.
2nd - copy the footage to a hard drive first then import.

Copy your P2 to an external OS 10 Extended BUT NOT journaled drive.
Your footage will be perfect everytime.
Dont copy to the internal mac system drive.

Wow! So, the only reliable way to import P2 to MAC is to have an External OS10 Extended drive attached to your laptop? WTF?

I thought OS X issues had been resolved in the 5.1.4....

Does anyone know what the problems is?

Am I going to have to get a PC notebook or will us mac users ever get the support and functionality we paid for?

You can import your footage to your internal - but it is not a good idea.
You really don't want video files you are trying to edit with on your system drive - that is true for ANY computer MAC or PC.....
In a pinch - if your external craps out or you forgot a cable - sure import to your internal drive - but don't expect any great performance if you try to edit.
With the MAC I recommend Firewire 800 externals - PC does not give you that option. Plus we edit in the field all the time with FCP - many-many people are skilled at FCP and I can usually hire an FCP field editor vs. finding a Premiere Pro or Edius editor.

Thanks HVXguy!

I haven't any performance issues while editing off my PB drive in the field. Just the frustrating FPS issue.

After seeing that I was getting those errors I starting downloading to my USB on the go drive and just imported them to my desktop. Unfortunately I am still getting the same results... The drive is formatted in MS-DOS(FAT32) because I had used it on another gig to tranfser files from my PB to be encoded on a PC...

I shot another big project in November and didn't have any of these problems. My workflow was to offload to the PB by copying the CONTENTS folder direct to the PB then import that into FCP. That was before 5.1.4 ...

It seems to me that Apple broke someting in the 5.1.4 or OS X 10.4.9 update.

Hmmmm....
I am still at 5.1.2 - and 10.4.8
If it works I don't mess with it....
I have FCS 2 on order......
I will probably wait until I get that to go forward
with any upgrading....

Try some MACcentric forums to see if there
are any ideas for you......

Hhahaha..uh.yeah..I thought it wasn't working so I upgraded when people reported it was working.

You should definetly stay where you're at. Now I getting 2-3 clips with messed up frame rates on every import.

I just checked ou the tech specs for FCP6 and it mentions NATIVE editing for P2 with a 'from cards' modifier. Anyone know if that means MXF support?
