hah! well If you count alcohol and cigarettes for myself my budget may rise a little bit.


Up to Version G on the rough cut, Still a few sound issues to fix, and then to color correction and addition of Music!

Oh and they aren't grabs, they are from a digi cam used to take BTS footage.
 
Got some music from CrowdKontrol, integrated it last night at my Mechanic's house (we were going to change my timing belt, but it began raining and he discovered other issues w/ my tranny..:( )


converting to 16:9 then compressing.
 
damn man those grabs on the front page look awesome! Puts me to shame already! How close are you to being done? CrowdKontrol looks pretty cool too I just checked out their page.
 
having probs in compressing video, but other than that I'm done. Any vegas tips would be much appreciated!
 
Used AE7 for title screen, and Vegas 6 for the rest.

Used Color Correction (Secondary) and Brightness and Contrast for CC in final cut.

Shot in letterbox so cropped final image before compressing.

I have a BTS tape, but with only 2 crew and 4 hours to shoot, it was difficult to get a ton of footage.

One funny thing: While we were filming at the coffee house, this ~70 year old woman (short riding on a motorcyle w/ a red helmet and few teeth) approaches us out of no where and states that she is "hulk hogan's younger sister". This makes it to the final credits if you care to notice, but another interesting detail was the person driving the motorcycle was a ~35 year old man who kept asking us if we liked Howard Stern. He then asks "want me to ride my motorcycle into the pizza place (next door) and order one?" He was serious. The couple had been married 2 weeks previous.


The BTS footage has some shots of them, so I'll post something soon, so you TOO can see Hulk Hogan's younger sister in action!
 
My thoughts:
Ha!! Nice tripod in the opening scene just chillin' on the street. The audio Levels in the cafe clip out really bad. The make up was superb on that dude. Shots outside were very nice. The suspense of just staying on the character was good, but I think it may have lingered a bit too long but that actually could help. I kept trying to figure out what he was saying. WOwa.. the attack. Man, it made my heart sink to think that could happen to anyone. Visually, I dug the look a Lot! Plot? plain and simple. to the point. Music/ambience was perfect for the film. Kudos.

I thought that we could have gotten out of the coffee shop and out of the dude in the woods a lot faster. It was waaay to slow and didn't develope the characters. For all I know she burnt the crap out of him and hes getting her back and not him just stalking her. After we get out of the coffee scene though it gets good I thought, the stabbing was nice a graphic but I think she would have been screaming her head off and making gargling sounds after the knife penetrates the lungs. I think if we would have gotten out of the coffee shop quicker and have him kill her quicker then you can do something like him really examining his work or something. Just a thought.
 
Way to throw a movie together at the last minute and on a budget. It looked great!

Overall, it had a nice, gritty look to it. Cinematography was great, as was editing. You had the tension building from the start.

Why did you hold such a lengthy shot on the girl's purse/wallet?

Sound was not so good. This especially bothered me when I couldn't hear what psychokiller was saying, but then realized that was probably intentional.

All the closeups on the killer were quite scary. I was loving the tension, but at a point it kind of got to be too much. I quickly went from the edge of my seat, to move on, already!

I didn't really get the story. I mean, I understand he's a stalker and he's crazy and then he kills her. But should there be more to it?

Again, cinematography was really great. I'm really impressed with what you made in such a short period of time. And again - psycho dude - scary.

In my mind, this is a crazy deranged person, don't know his past, sees this woman, he doesn't know, and is convinced she's done him wrong and she deserves it... There is no history, he's just that insane.. I can see where it is a little much....

I didn't really get much out of the story, except how it reminded me of the way I generally interact with women - from far away and behind a bush. :)

But I thought the end was very very well done. The shots, the make-up FX, the performances, the editing made for a very good killing. Good bit for a reel too, I think.

I thought leading up to it, many of the shots were good, but unmotivated. There were a lot of shots of the killer, her in the coffee shop - what IS it with coffee shops in this fest? - but I didn't get the feeling that they added up to a flow. It might be interesting to tighten it up and pick some specific shots and see if it propels things a little more.

The sound design on the killing was awesome. I mean the sounds of the knife and stabbing. They were a mix of things, it seemed, but not always what I would associate with a knife going into a body. But they did really catch my attention and spice that moment up nicely.
 
Review | POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT! I watch the movies first time around strictly for enjoyment, second and third for review.

Good job on entering the fest on short notice. I'm jealous!

Script - Was there one? I wouldn't doubt it. Not going to go into depth here. But, there wasn't a story for me to follow, which means this probably should've been a lot shorter than it was.

Direction - Some good frame-ups. Hand camera shots for the most part, seemed to catch the necessary action. Sure there wasn't too much time to really dig into that kinda stuff either.

Acting - Your leading lady had a serious thing about her hair. SHe kept playing with it a bit toooo much for me. It was distracting after the third time. The Maniac was as shakey as he was supposed to be I suppose.

Cine/Lighting - Bounce for exteriors? Only place it seemed to fall really shor twas in the Coffee Shop but, it's to be expected.

Editing - The place that editing had a chance to shine was during the stab session. It was good enough for me. Where it failed was probably in the over all cut. This was minutes longer than it had to be. Especially if you weren't going to establish the relationship between the killer and the be-killeded.

Sound - I really REALLY wanted to hear what he said. I think that would've at least added something. Maybe he's uttering something important we need to know as to why he's about to stab her in the same exact spot like fifty times?

Special Effects - Best stab session I've seen in the fest so far. The first hit was kinda brutal, the second couple were laced tight in editing and it seemed real. The only one I had aproblem with was the final. I could tell it was something that wasn't human after that point. Good going on the blood spitting. I think the impact was made stronger by the editing as well. I did not like his make-up. Looked like he just needed to wash his face. That was also an expense of time and/or money that could've been saved on... it didn't seem to be of any importance.

Scariest Moments - First stab, then the one when she's on her back and the blood's coming out of her mouth. Whoo. Brutal.

Overall consensus - You could probably chop this down dramatically and have the exact same impact on the audience. You'll avoid people wanting to skip through the parts that really don't move the footage forward at all. Good job on getting something in at last minute times.
