Glidetrack Anyone?

I'm considering investing in a Glidetrack (www.glidetrack.com) and was checking
to see if any of you have one or have used one. If so, what's the pro's / con's
of this rig?

Some of the demo footage on the site look very impressive considering all that's
used was a 1mm dolly portable track system.

I was contemplating the heavy duty version which will support my HPX-170 and
a 35mm rig.

Any advice/suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I appreciate the replies and the link for those inclined to make their own.
I gather from both responses, you guys think the product is overpriced

I'd like to hear from someone who actually bought one and uses it if they feel
it was worth the investment or not.

Here's what you have to consider, no matter if the Glidetrack is made from the same Igus parts: cost vs. convenience.

Both work pretty much the same. You're talking about $160-ish vs. $299. So for $140-ish more, you get pre-assembly and a bit more polished/professional end-caps on the rails (appearance *can* make a difference to clients). That's not a huge markup, especially considering other track and dolly systems run well over $1k. If you look at the markup by percentage, yeah, it's a lot... but for the total dollar amount, I can see plenty of reason to purchase the Glidetrack rather than the Igus parts. I can also see plenty of reason to do the opposite.

So ask yourself if you are willing to invest the DIY time, or if you would rather have it ready to go. Honestly, you'll be able to get the same shots either way.

Bought the Glidetrack SD from Alastair back in December '08. It's a good product, and if I had the time and tools available I may have considered the DIY approach, but that wasn't the case and the Glidetrack was worth the cost to me.

C2V. Although price is always a consideration, I'm not that concerned with the cost.
Rather those who actually own the Glidetrack & if they were happy with it's results.
With that said, do you own the Glidetrack and if so, how'd you rate it's overall
performance?

Gymnut808. I gather from your post you are happy with the results you get from
the investment for this piece. Good enough.

Thank you both for taking time to reply and your thoughts.

Best.

FYI, my parts are for what Glidetrack calls the "HD" version ($450.00). Parts cost about $160.00 total.

Others using the same iGus parts:
T-Jib, T-Slide: http://www.t-jib.com/products2.asp
Kessler Crane, Pocket Dolly: http://www.kesslercrane.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=230&Itemid=82

I have one of Eric's original 12' cranes from a few years back. He's a great guy
who's always been very accomodating. I highly recommend any of his products.

I really liked the Cinevate slider at NAB. And the new Kessler Pocket Dolly/Jib as well as the Porta-jib solution are additional options. Kessler has been a great supporter of DVXuser for some time now. Check out this video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe7Fg7dIylc&feature=channel_page

Cinevates slider are very modular and versatile to any users needs! They even have a cable cam solution that uses the same parts.
