HVX w/ RR Micro on V-8

HVX w/ RR Micro on V-8

I don't know the answer... yet... I'm going to take My HVX w/ RR Micro and a 50mm Nikkor and fly it on the V-8 Tomorrow (April 1st). With the addered rails, adapter and lens, we've decided it might be close... so I'm going up to San Francisco tomorrow to find out how it does. If you happen to find out any more please let me know and I'll try to post my findings when I get a chance.

cheers,

jwager,
Please post your results after your test. I'm thinking of getting the v16 for my hvx/m2 combo but maybe v8 is enough. Also, they seem like good product but I've never seen one in person so thoughts on overall buid quality would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a V-16, but since I don't have the camera yet I haven't had the opportunity to try it out. I think I'll have the camera in about a week though. I also have the low-mode kit, vehicle mount, and LCD screen. With the LCD screen and even the FS-100 it should be fine, but otherwise I may need to add a couple more pounds of weights. Not sure yet though.

I bought it on special. That Mini doesn't come with the low mode kit and I don't see a vehicle mount even available. When I bought my V-16 the low mode kit and vehicle mount were basically free, and I got a 7" 16:9 LCD instead of only 4". Take that into account and the fact that it's brand new, and I got a better deal that even the used Mini... and a much better deal than a new Mini. That Mini does look like a great deal compared to a new one though.

ok... I tried the HVX w/ the RR Micro and the 50mm Nikkor.... findings: well still inconclusive, more tests and ideas to try out.... but preliminary findings: Too damn heavy for the V-8. Haven't tried it w/out the RR Micro adapter yet, and I'm guessing that'll work... but I'm really pushing to figure out what rig can fly it WITH the adapter, AND w/out breaking my already depleted wallet. Soooo, I'll post more after I get a chance to play with the setup again - my buddy who owns the rig was going out of town so he just told me to take it home for the week and play around with it, so I'm still going to see if I can tighten it up and balance it out. However.... bottom line... if it's too heavy, it'll be like fishing with sinkers... once it hits the bottom... it no float no more man. I'll catch up with yall again soon.

OK... better news.... the HVX will fly on the V-8. I got it to fly with the red rock micro... but JUST barely... I had to make the spring tension of arm as tight as it can go... put up a 50mm nikkor andthe arm didn't bottom out... although I did have a slight issue on side to side balance.. I think because of how the battery mounts on the HVX... I would reccomond the V-16 if your wanting to out on extras ..... if your just flying the HVX by itself.. with the right combo of weight mounted to the sled... you can definately make it happen on the V-8..... but add a lens adapter, or what-have-you and you'll be dangerously close to the weight limit of the V-8.

Hope this is helpful.
