Glidecam Shorty

Re: Glidecam Shorty

Looks very smooth. I know how tough it is to pull off these moving shots; I myself have a glidecam 4000pro. Do you have a 2000? or a 4000? forearm brace, body pod, etc.. Overall it's an interesting piece, although I’m not too fond of the green mist effect for the Raid, but how else would you do it?

I know DigiEffects has a plug-in for the fly mosaic look, I think it’s in Aurorix 2 or Cyclonist.

my 2 cents,
Shaun

Pretty cool, I liked the spray idea and changing the color afterwards. Oh and watch those fan blades........ ;D

I have a 2000 without the arm brace. I was just messing around with it to check the balance after installing a quick release mounting plate (Bogen 3270). The arm brace would be nice (Yeah, the greenish mist was hokey..... :P)....

Re: Glidecam Shorty

Yeah those quick release plates really help out, just be careful not to rotate the head of the Glidecam by accident when removing the camera. Just curious whether or not you have a shotgun mic attached to the DVX, because for me it creates a problem in balancing the whole rig. Did u have to rotate the bottom weights around? (ie: off centered…I use 4 on each side pushing away from the shotgun mic)

Really impressive for a continuous take! The arm brace really helps out a lot mainly for the wrist, it allows you to use it longer, and allows for more freedom unlike the body pod.

Re: Glidecam Shorty

I don't mount the shotgun mic when I do the glidecam, just for the reason you mentioned. Getting the center of gravity right is a bit of a hassle. I have thought about adding a small counter weight to the top plate somewhere to offset the shotgun mic if I used it. With the DVX and no shotgun, I use 3 weights per side. Seems to balance well, although it is very sensative in the rotation axis. Just takes practice (like hovering a helicopter).

I know the whole side balance is thrown off it I balance the camera, then open the LCD screen. I've even had to adjust the fore and aft if I use a different battery. Very sensative, but when it works, it is so cool to look at.

Re: Glidecam Shorty

Great glide . . . these glidecam movies look more and more like estate agent sales videos. And were was the cat in this one, you know the rule . . . you need a cat in your test videos ;) but most of all great balancing!
