Glidecam or CobraCrane

I use my 100b mostly for features and shorts, and an advertisement now and then. If given the choice to purchase either a glidecam 2000 or a cobracrane I, which would you choose? Which would add more to a production?

I'd think you'd get a greater range of use using the Cobracrane

I have a GCam 2000 and although it does glide like they say (After calibrating it for 227 hours) I have really just not used it that much and the weight is excruciating on the forearm after long periods.

I think you'd happest with the crane

Make sure you have the sticks to support your crane though

IMO

I agree that a crane would be a better choice, I own a glidecam 2000 and a Kessler crane, the crane has been used many more times and is easier to accurately repeat a camera move. I thought about going with a cobra crane myself before I learned about kessler here on DVXuser, you might want to take a look at kesslercrane.com

All in all when using a crane or jib on a dolly your shots are going to be better than with the glidecam. But it also depends on set up time. What do you have and is setting up a dolly and crane an option? If so go with it.

Here's one more vote for the Crane/Jib ... they are more of a bread & butter staple for shooting.

Most all general TV studios have a crane or jib of sorts, very few companies have a Steadicam in house - let alone in every studio.

im actually going to go with a glidecam.

I have both a glidecam and crane, i havent made too many shorts, but i have had many many hours of use with the glidecam ( trip to prague ) ( Camp DVD of the summer )

actually, whats the cheapest crane you can get that pan and tilts? From what ive seen only reall expensive ones have a pan feature. anyone?

jib or stabilizer?

jib or stabilizer?

I'd go with the Advanta-Jib Lite from www.dykortech.com (shameless plug)
but thats' just my opinion.

actually
I have both a stabilizer (body mounted isoelastic jobby dubbed the dykortech Cayleycam prototype) and a jib

and the jib gets much more use and requests.

so I'd go with a jib/crane any day

I don't know. I think I'm gonna have to go against the popular concensus and say, for the money, the Glidecam is a better deal (assuming we're talking about the 2000 or 4000 pro and not the full on rig). I've used cranes before and personally I think a crane is only worth it if you can pan and tilt while craning, and like someone mentioned, the cheapest ones that do that are about $2000. Just a "crane" that you attach your camera too and swing around, to me I don't think is really that great of a shot. Yes, I do agree that a good crane will give you more use than a steadicam but a good crane costs about 4 times as much as the glidecam.

That is one amazing looking jib/crane.

but man, why dont they have any in the <1000$ range that can pan as well as tilt?
