GlideCam Models

I recieved a Promo DVD from GlideCam (thanks DVXUSER for the Link) and it does a great job of showing what can be done with the Glidecame Products. However there was no mention of new products. I was especially interested in new products for the 2000 and 4000. The dvd did not explain the differences between the V-8 System and the V-16 system. I'm alittle confused about which GlideCam would be best for the DVX with Mattebox, Large Battery, Anamorphic and a mic. I think the V-8 System looks like all I would need - Has anyone used the V-8 with the DVX ? If so how'd you like it?

Re: GlideCam Models

I bought the 4000 and sometimes I think it is more than I really needed.
My setup is: Cam, 5hrs (big) batt, Shotgun mic.
I believe there are people here that bought the 2000 and are happy with it. V8 and V16 would be like killing a cockroach with a demolition steel ball! :o

Re: GlideCam Models

I would agree that the V16 is overkill. But the V8 is different from the 2000 and 4000 in that it is an entire unit, including a body pod. If you will be needing to use glide cam for long amounts of time, the V8 is for you. Although, there was talk a few months ago of a cheaper version of a body pod coming out for people with cams like the DVX. Butno update on that, I believe it was supposed to be announced Sept. 1st. Anyone remember that?

Re: GlideCam Models

Yes, I do remember that a cheaper version of a body pod was coming out, that is why I was interested in the above mentioned Promo DVD. I have the 2000, and with a mattebox, large Battery, anamorphic adapter and a mic my Arm and shoulder go out after just a very short time - 2 or 3 min. I have the wrist brace which doesn't really help my arm and shoulder especially when the DVX is loaded up with accessories. You mentioned that the V16 is overkill. But the V8 is different from the 2000 and 4000 - BUT how is the V8 different from V16. The promo DVD didn't show the V8 - only the V16 and 2000.

Re: GlideCam Models

Take a look at the ArmSupport, It might be a solution for
the hand held stabilizers.

I hope to try it here at IBC tomorrow with some of them.

Re: GlideCam Models

I think The ArmSupport and the Wrist Support are names for the same thing. This device is designed to add support for your wrist and forarm. I already have used this and it helps just a little - it doesn't take any load off the arm and shoulder. Hey Danny, great your at IBC, - ask what the differences are between the V8 and V16. Thanks Danny

Re: GlideCam Models

I have the Glidecam V8, and use it quite a bit with my DVX100. It's wonderful, but heavy as heck! After an hour of usage, you really start to feel it.

I believe the difference between the V8 and the V16 is a matter of how much weight you can put on each. For a DVX, XL1/s/2, PD150, you want the V8. The V16 is for much heavier ENG shoulder mount cameras, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think you can use a DVX with a V16... it might be too lightweight. But you should email them just to make sure.

If you do get the V8, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to practice with it. It's not as easy as it seems.

Check out this thread from dvinfo.net:

Lots of great info in there.

Hope this helps!

Re: GlideCam Models

Jaime is correct, the V8 is the propper weight support for the DVX. You would need to have A LOT of accessories on the DVX at all times to need the V16. (I MEAN A LOT OF ACCESSORIES.)
