GH3 Glidecam HD 1000 vs 2000 for GH3/GH4?

Hey folks, so I did a search of the forums looking for a topic that discussed the question I'm asking, but didn't come up with anything conclusive, other than that many purchasers of the Glidecam HD 1000 regretted their purchase and wished they had bought the 2000.

I'm trying to decide what the best option is for my GH3––I currently shoot with the 14mm f2.5, and would like to use a Glidecam. I'd also want to use my Rode Video Mic and heavier lenses possibly in the future.

Does anyone here with GH3/Glidecam experience have any pointers?

Hey Benlen,

I shoot with a GH1 and a Glidecam HD-1000 on regular basis, generally with either the kit 14-42, or a Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye, Rode VMP, and a quick release, This goes with 2 plates per side on the bottom weight wise, Personally if I had to purchase now, I would go for a HD-2000, although a stock GH would be too light for it, when adding a quick release and mic, + maybe a heavy lens, weight adds up quickly, and from my experience with glidecams, the heavier the better, as in more stable, due to moving mass and some other technical blabla, so I wouldn't mind getting a HD-2000 and adding a weight or 2 under the camera if neccesary.

Just my 2 cents, hope it's helpfull.

i use a GH3 + 12-35mm, and the Glidecam HD2000. I add a battery grip and a rode video mic to add a little more weight. You can get it pretty well balanced and get great results!

I debated what to get for the gh3 and ultimately decided on the blackbird.
love it!!!
so easy to setup and balance. Works great! I had never used one before and this is recent video was from my second shoot using it:

Wow, thanks everyone for the replies!

It seems like the HD2000, as well as other alternatives like the Blackbird, seem to be popular.

I'm pretty sold on getting an HD2000, so for those who've used the 1000/2000, do you think that with the lightweight 14mm prime, a Rode Mic, and an additional quick release plate the 2000 would or wouldn't have enough weight to balance properly? The below video shows some guys using the GH3 with an HD2000, without a mic or battery grip, but they are admittedly using a larger lens.

Thanks a bunch for the replies!
