Glidecam for FS700

Hi all,

The company I am working with recently tested a preproduction FS700 and decided to buy one. We'd like to purchase some sort of prosumer steadicam vest or glidecam to go with it. Any recommendations?

In need of expert advice. :)

Love the camera by the way.

The Glidecam 4000 PRO has a higher weight capacity than the Merlin, and an attachment will allow for low shots. Probably a future purchase.

The Merlin vest will work with the Glidecam by buying an adapter.

I have the Merlin, and with two mics attached, the large battery, side handle attached, and the Sony 24mm f1.8 lens, the FS700 balances fine, but the unit is at its limit.

You need to outline your own spec

A naked FS700 will probably work great on a small rig, but a completely different solution would be required if you added PL glass, a rods rig, or whatever

Again big rigs are not always an appropriate solution due to the speed of setup, complexity of operation whatever..

Sony 24 is gonna be to narrow . For one week I had sigma 19 f2.8 and I have to say fs100 works pretty good with sigma +merlin . Of course I wish to have something wider like sony 16mm . But look at the edge is so soft and almost useless 2.8 . If you want arm+vest , samyang 14 or tokina 11-16 should be perfect .

Thanks for the answers so far, very helpful. And you're right Morgan, it would help to outline my spec... I'm just relatively unsure of what that will be right now. I don't think, when its on a rig, I'll be adding PL glass. I also don't need to bother with sound as it will be recorded separately.

Again, thanks and I'm happy to hear any other ideas.

The FS100 flew nicely on a 10 pound capacity in barebones with the 16mm or the 18-200.... But... as soon as you add baseplate, mattebox, follow focus, lens adapter, and like morgan said PL lenses or cine primes, you will blow that limit and get bad results.
I had a shoot, with an insisting director and DP, with Master primes and what not on it and the arm was hanging, I might as well have had it on my shoulder (just to over emphasise).

In short... flying the FS700 will be possible as naked as possible, or you need a bigger rig. I'd say Zephyr atleast just to have some playing room and to be able to take other interesting cams as well.
