Glidecam 4000

Hi, I am looking to purchase a stedi cam for a HVX 200, I don't mind about how heavy it is, as the overall goal is to have the smoothest possible tracking shot. My budget is approximately £300 ($600). I have looked through many threads on this website and watched many videos testing the various types. I think the general consensus is that the Glidecam 4000 would have the best results for this budget. Are people in agreement that this is the item that I should be looking to purchase?

Also is there anywhere on the Glidecam to attach a Firestore FS-100, without a Bebob Box FS. Or can anyone recommend a mount or attachment that would hold the Firestore to the HVX 200 whilst using the Glidecam.

I would be very grateful if there were any suggestions as to where I can get the Glidecam 4000 for the cheapest price. It seems to be much more expensive from stockists in the UK.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

You will NOT be able to carry any handheld system with the HVX200 and Firestore. It's just too heavy (it's not a question of minding, but that it will hurt almost instantly, and you will simply not be able to hold it very long at all)

Is that just with the additional firestore that I will not be able to carry it? As I have seen many posts and videos with the HVX 200 and Glidecam 4000.

Is it possible to have the Firestore attached to a belt and use the Glidecam 4000 with HVX 200?

The HVX200 alone on the Glidecam begins to be uncomfably heavy (often limiting operation to a few mintues), but yes, the added wieght of the FS really adds a lot to that.

Even with a bare HVX handheld, it'll be heavy enough that even most small P2 cards will outlast your stamina for many shots, definatly worth tryign to ditch the FS for any handheld stabilizer shots.

Thank you very much, I'll just use the P2 cards for tracking shots with the stedi cam.

So for the quality of the shot and my budget considered, would you say that I would get the Glidecm 4000 and get the arm and shoulder brace at a later date.

I shoot NFL games with an HVX on a Zacuto rail set, matte box, 4x4 glass filters and a rail-mounted FS100 via Zacuto arms... all by hand, no support.

Yes, it gets pretty heavy, but luckily it's a matter of shooting the play, then setting the camera down on the ground until the next play... I sit when I shoot most of the time anyway, as the angle is better. But I need to be mobile in case a receiver runs in my direction and to swap endzones each quarter.

It can be done if you don't have to hold the camera and shoot constantly.

James, how many Mr Olympias have you won?

I've got the GC4000 with a wrist support I got off ebay and it seems to help a lot.

marketmd,
how easy are you finding it to balance the FS with the HVX on the Merlin? Any chance you could post a photo?

- MIkko

No sorry, I've only run stock HVX. I'll be using my brevis and 24mm canon fd but that's as much as I'll put on it.

The wrist support takes the pressure straight off the wrist (it's all grip/forearm strength if using the GC4000 naked) and places it more accross the arm/shoulder - well worth it. I paid about AUS $140 which I thought was expensive but it's well made.
