Glidecam 2000

Alright,

I can't for the life of me balance my DVX properly. I've got it "almost there" but then the rocking starts and it just all goes to hell.

Any tips/tricks to balance? Does Glidecam have any general setups for camera models? Amount of base weight? Length?

Help. Please.

Good luck, I can't seem to find an answer either. If I do I'll keep you in mind.

Re: Glidecam 2000

Did you follow directions and their sequence for balancing? Do you have enough weight on bottom? Remember, GC2000 is only designed for "up to" 6lb camera, so you probably need all the weights on it. If you are close to that weight with your attachments (mic, light, bigger battery?) you may just need 4000, which is rated at 4-10 lbs. I bought a 4000 for that reason, and it set up with no problems at all.

Making it longer will give added leverage to the weights. Remember to solve one balance point at a time, and after every change go back and verify all previous balance settings. If it sets up like 4000, be sure your floor is flat and level.

If you get more precise than "the rocking starts ", maybe someone can give you a better clue.

Re: Glidecam 2000

its all about dynamic balance..

yeah more info is needed... does it rock fore/aft or side to side? what is your drop time? a little more info will get you the answer you are looking for...

Alright...I extended the pole...added all the weight and tried again...

seems to work rather nicely now. No rocking. Thanks for all the input. I did have to ditch my larger battery. I guess the 4000 is the way to go for a loaded DVX. I purchased the 2000 for my vx2100 and it worked great.

I spent about 6 hours (over a week) trying to balance my DVX on one of those -- I failed. Iadvise against the sled-arc test too.

Glad those comments were helpful. Glidecams sell pretty well used, and you can find 4000 used if you are patient. I paid $180 for mine, dinged up but fully functional. OTOH< your arm will give out before the short battery does. :)
