Glasstron alternatives

So i was thiking...
All these HDslrs are quite incomfortable to hold and frame since the screen is sticked to the back of the body. Therefore you have to raise the camera a lot, spend stupid money in viewfinders, or external LCD monitors that you have to power and carry around. To me, this fact lbrings down the value of cheap and superlight HDslrs.

Some years ago i bought a couple Sony glasstron. When they were launched they were extremely expensive but after some years they were easy and cheap to buy in ebay. I used them a lot with my dvx100 and sony fx1. The good thing about them was that:
- they were very light
- reasonable resolution
- hands free
- no issues with the sun hitting the screen or uncomfortable position. You just wear them on!
- you could see through them with an ON-off button so you didn´t hit anything or anyone.

Downsides: yes, you look a bit like Robocop...

So why not using these kind of portable monitors with modern Dslrs or even a RED ONE? Well, first my glasstron were stolen, so no chance of using them now. Second, HDMI didn´t exist back then.

But today´s replacements do have HDMI input, and that means great quality!

Unfortunately all the cheap models that i have tested had very poor resolution, but there must be some alternative to the old glasstron these days. Has anyone find any good one?

Wow, never seen or heard of the "Glasstron" before. Looks awesome though!

There doesn't seem to be a similar product on the market these days...I think we're just gonna have to "bite the bullet" and get something like this:

But like you said, it does kill the "affordability" side of it all.
