Hey everyone,

What settings or techniques do you use to keep your action in focus if you're on the move with a gimbal (Beholder DS1 or Ronin) all the time and your subjects are moving as well? I'd like to improve in this area a bit more. I'm on a Sony AS7 and a6300 currently.

Thanks!

I have the same set up as you and i always film with a 5'6F stop, trying to move myself at the same time as the talent does. (Focus peaking enabled, obviously)
BTW Sony a6300 autofocus works flawless.
Cheers :)

First, use as wide a lens as you can stand. They will give a broader field of focus.
Then use as small of an aperture as you can - like F/8.

These two basic optical principles will give you the broadest range of in-focus subject.

Then after that you need to consider the distance-to-camera of your subject and keep them within your working range.

One of the more common zero-budget methods is to tie a string between you and your subject so you always stay the same distance apart.
Of course this only works for closer shots that don;t reveal the string - but you start getting the idea that "you need to get creative" about it.
