I have been reviewing som efootage on a larger screen and have noticed a strange, faint ghost image of a grid pattern only in scenes where I have lit a subject and let the background fall off to almost nothing (dark black). I was shooting in S5 in squeeze mode. has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts? I see no trace of it in scenes which are brightly and evenly lit.

I was afraid you would say that... I haven't posted an image before, any reccomendations on how to easily host it for free, I don't have any server space myself...

I think what you're describing is just blocky noise in the blacks, which can be common on the DVX. The "grid" is just more-than-usually-apparent DV compression macroblocks...

If you have a decent CRT monitor during production you can see this and correct for it easily, but it often doesn't show up on the LCD, or even on a computer screen when editing. If you have this in captured footage, adjusting your black level with a proc amp or similar filter is one effective way to reduce this noise... at the expense of some detail in the darkest areas. Gives a much smoother and more professional appearance.

This noise is magnified in compression, so looks worse on DVD...

i find that the website myspace.com 's only use for me is for free hosting of pictures - and you can upload whatever size and however many you want for free
