Ghana Documentary: What do you think?

Hi Everyone!

I am pleased to announce that between working full time and going to graduate school full time, I have finally completed my first "major" project with my DVX100A. I travelled to Ghana, Africa this past September and did some filming with an organization called Wylcliffe Bible Translators. This is the documentary that I have put together that will be used in some of their conferences.

This film is a 15 minute documentary about a method in Bible translation. Prior to this method, translating a Bible would take sometimes up to 20 years for one language. Now it is possible to complete multiple translations in about seven years.

I will warn you now that this video is geared toward religious people, so if you would be offended by something like this then please don't download it. Also, this is a documentary... no shooting, sex, or drugs :).

I would love to get your feedback so that I can improve. As I said, this was my first major project, and I gave it my best shot. Everything was filmed by me during a nine day period in Ghana. I have a DVX100A and basically only used a tripod, lapel mic, and boom mic during certain parts. This video was shot in squeezed format and then fit to a 4:3 picture in post. I used Final Cut Pro HD, a little Motion, and some Livetype.

Sorry about the compression, it was tough get a good picture quality for 15 minutes!

First of all, Im not a very religous person so I was a little hesitant of veiwing this but I downloaded anyway. For your first major project this is pretty darn good. It looks like you've done serveral major projects before. I like your opening visuals. The audio is great because I can hear everything perfectly. To me thats good audio. I don't care so much for dolby digital or 5.1. If I can hear the audio, this its all good. Gee, I really found nothing wrong with it. It looks and sounds great. I love the Gladiator music for your ending. It's actually very touching. I think its great to see something different here in this community and I'm sure GOD would love it! Good stuff.

That was great...I thought you did an excellent job on this project. The visuals were compelling, the story intrigued me, the audio was clear throughout.

Great Job

Thanks for your comments so far! I would love to hear from anybody else out there willing to take a look at the video so I can hear any good or bad feedback. As I said, this is my first major project and I would like to know what people liked and didn't like to improve in the future.

As far as the sound goes, I did the narration myself in my high tech recording studio... that is, I hung a microphone in my closet (attached to the DVX) and did all the narration there because it was able to keep the sound from bouncing because all my clothes were hanging. Not a bad idea, huh?!?
