GH6 Using a Lexar 1TB SSD with the GH6

Costco had a good price ($70) on a Lexar 1TB SSD, so I got it to use with the GH6. Panasonic has approved only Samsung and SanDisk SSDs for use with the GH6, but the Lexar turned out to be a perfect match -- it recorded video at the GH6's highest speed (1.9 Gbps) without a glitch. And stayed cool (well, slightly warm) doing it. I made a video with my GH6/Lexar experience, which you can see here:

Great price. Not in the market for such a setup because I don't record a high enough bitrate to warrant an external drive.

My only criticism is the drive is a bit large and has no mounting points. I have SSD enclosure for my computer that's more compact, a little larger than a pack of gum. Rubber band is fine for demonstration purposes but it be advisable to get a rig accessory to properly hold it.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, the rubber band was only for the purposes of this demonstration. I could probably rig up something a bit more rigid using my L-bracket that I use in the video. I also have a cage for the GH6 that would be a good foundation for a more rigid mount.

For $70, a 1TB storage device is a lot cheaper than an SD card or CFExpress card. (It's MUCH cheaper than a 256GB V90 SD card.) And those both top out at slower speeds than 1.9 Gbps. If you're recording at 400 Mbps, the 1TB drive can do several hours of good recording.

Anyway, just another option for recording media, at which the GH6 has to be the king.

Have you seen the Kondor Blue and SanDisk SSD solution? I can't use it myself, but I love the simplicity of it. When I upgraded to a new M2 Mac last month I also converted over to the SanDisk Pro-Blade SSD Station system for my editing drives, and a Pro-Blade Transport for portable use. I love them. Absolutely great. I already re-configured my FX6 at NAB with various Kondor Blue accessories, so I am a fan of their products as well. I wish I could use the Kondor Blue Pro-Blade Handle with my cameras, but it's not possible. Too bad. This solution looks really good, but I will admit it is more expensive than yours.

That's a nice setup.

My feeling is if you're externally recording, the drive and cable should be properly secured and be of a small form factor. A colleague had the cable get jostled causing recording to fail. That's why I stick with cards or if using an external recorder it's redundant and being recorded internally, otherwise it's not worth the risk.

I did see that handle storage for the GH6 at the NAB (At the time, I actually thought the camera displaying it was the S5II, but it turned out to be a GH6.) Very slick solution.
