GH5 GH5s with Ronin M + Zacuto Cage + wireless focusing

Hey guys!

I'm planning to make a rig with Ronin M + Zacuto Cage but as I shoot with manual focus only I wonder what pro's use for focusing, considering I want to use Atomos Inferno as a monitor. I understand it's going to be a little heavy but that's not a problem with some support system. The most important part is to control focus with Inferno (big bright screen).

Are there other options and configurations? Autofocus is not an option for me.

Thanks,
Alex

A second operator uses a remote focus to pull focus

A side advantage of this is you can have a small momitor on the rig

Agree with Morgan. Plus pulling focus as a solo op also flying a Ronin sounds hard.

Ronin-M (or even a Zhiyun Crane II, or Ronin S) + SmallHD Focus (or even a wireless link to your iphone via the app) for the flying unit.

Wireless follow focus with a dedicated focus puller on the Atomos. You could do Terradeck or Aputure wireless display modules also.

You could have the focus puller walk alongside you and just use a longer length HDMI cable if tethered.

Lot of ways to slice this.

You could also consider being the one to pull focus instead of carry the rig unless it really needs your skill flying.

And, if you need a little support, don't forget about the support vests like EasyRig and others to help hold the weight.

Then again by the time you're done investing in all of that, you could also just buy/use/rent a 1DX Mark II with an AF lens that performs super well and just fly it on a Glidecam. The AF there would likely be just as good as manual, well, depending on the shot.

For solo operation a colleague uses a thumb controlled electronic Follow Focus on his Ronin, but don’t recall the manufacturer.

Thank you guys for the info! Yes, that sounds like a risky adventure to me now... And there's no way to try it out somewhere.

When I shoot now with my DVX200 I use manual focus and it works for me. But this is without Inferno (otherwise it's too heavy). So I thought I'd try GH5s with Ronin and some focusing aid. Ok, let's start small - with AF first and then see how it goes.
