GH5s? New low light monster?

Yes, I was guessing something like that, but it was still funny...
Personally I'd rather use just one system at any point in time (one set of lenses, one UI to be able to use without thinking), but I'm just an amateur, many pros are required to work with different systems all the time, so for them it would be much less of an issue.

I dunno. Compared to Super35, bigger stuff is still incredibly niche.
Agreed!...S35 is the standard, and will probably always be, for perhaps the simplest reason of all...it's very slow and expensive to shoot on a sensor like the Alexa 65 or in the case of some films, 70mm in the old days...opening lenses up, the DOF becomes ridiculously shallow, so getting anything in focus takes a lot of time...and if you land up closing down for a sufficiently deep DOF to be practical, why bother with the far greater additional expense...I think taking The Revenant for example, the amount shot on the 65 in the whole film would disappoint the FF proponents...there are very few Christopher Nolans in the world (yes I know he did not direct The Revenant)...anyway...an image is an image...step forward a few steps with a smaller sensor camera and the same lens and the image becomes S35...so....if you light and shoot narrative, I think it becomes irrelevant at some point...cameras are almost reaching the maxing out point...it really is just down to the crew and the story these days IMO. Of course...that's really never changed!

PS...I doubt very strongly the new Panny announcement is a low light GH5....after such an incredible release as the GH5, another one this soon and then especially after the EVA hardly seems like Panasonic's style.

Its more likely a GH5R like they did with the GH4 and GH4R - A paid firmware related update that you can either buy the new camera or update the one you already have

All those things sound dandy, but I doubt we'll get most of them. Maybe some of the software related things.

Speaking for myself, since I am in the market for a GH5 in the next 3-6 months, I could definitely take advantage of cleaner high ISOs and more dynamic range. A nice highlight rolloff would be beneficial.
I rarely shoot 60p so if they go 10-bit with that, eh. Bonus I guess.

A compressed raw option excites the once indie filmmaker in me, but realistically I'd barely ever use it in my recent work. Unless memory cards and hard drives drastically fall in price. Even 10bit gets a little bulky for me but I think the trade off is good.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the current state of cameras for what I do. Sure it would be nice to get an Alexa image in a GH body, but will that ever happen, realistically? I don't think the motivation is there for Panasonic to make that happen.

I like the idea of focal length and focus readings showing on the screen like my PX270. Makes life much better for difficult jobs. Seems like a pretty easy thing to add if they would think about adding it. I would think the odds of RAW are zero since the EV doesn't even have it! 10bit 60p is probably within reason though. High ISO, AF and DR would be grand.

XT-2, in the two times I have shot video with it, makes some mighty fine looking video. But it is clunky to use for video, FT doesn't work in UHD, controls are awkward and non-intuitive. Fuji could make a game changing mirrorless 4K digital cinema camera but they are not there yet.

Gosh I hope it has improved AF or Panasonic will have adopted the Canon style of having one big "gotcha" in a an otherwise great product. If the rumors are true... :)

And bring it on! I'm excited. Neumann is known to use Neat Noise on his preview footage, but even so, if ISO 6400 is clean on this thing, plus internal 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 60p, IBIS, and some DR enhancment... 13 stops? 14? That is going to be on incredible camera... that even gives much more expensive cameras a serious run for their money...
While I suppose dynamic range could be slightly improved with tweaks, wouldn't anything significant -- like a stop or two -- require a new sensor? If they go that route, they should probably implement dual readout.
