GH5 GH5 Test with B4 Lens Fujinon XA17x7.6-BERM & Fujinon ZA17x7.6-BERM

I own the GH4 and GH5 with Panasonic and Olympus glass (not the high end stuff, see below). Frankly for my use neither of the B4 lenses you tested produced acceptable image quality. But, I guess it depends on the look you are going for.

Won't those zooms you tested only do manual focus only? If so, then I think shooting model planes would be pretty tough.

They are only manual focus, but autofocus on anything I have tried is useless and will won't work at all, it starts to focus the sky and other bizarre behaviour, constantly going out of focus. So manual is the only option and the B4 parfocality or cine lenses appears to be the only option.

The image circle of those Fuji lenses cover the sensor, how? I thought they looked great at the soccer fields, sharp, flare under control, tremendous zoom range. I did shoot some model airplanes with the Panasonic 1080p AG-AC90 and autofocus worked great, plus stabilization, but just HD though. Still the focus tracked beautifully. By giving up UHD mode only, that camera was really suited for the model airplanes. I never posted the footage, I'll see if I can find it. The Super Hornet footage you linked, what an amazing aircraft, the model seems to have all the flight characteristics of the real plane, including vertical climb.

Yannick has a great piece there. Servo controlled zooms and the GH5 would be a great tool. I guess that is called a DVX300!

While this adapter can work with the 2X tele extender (loosing 1.5-2 stops of light) at smaller f/stops (5,6-16), this is not an optically corrected adapter and you will get CA from it if you open the f/stop below 5.6, however stopping down sharpens up the image. For best performance, you may want to consider an optically corrected adapter, that will allow using f1.8-4.5 settings. However, these adapters are more expensive, around $1500, see Able Cine or MTF Services.
Cheers

I don't think this applies to a MFT, perhaps if it was a super35 sensor it may be needed (even with the 2x extender it does not fill the sensor).

Any other optical element would actually make the picture worse and I have not seen any B4 to MFT adapters with optical elements.

Also 2/3 x 2 = 4/3 which is exactly what the Gh5, Its one of the rare times where it works out perfect.
