GH4 GH5 Owner / User Reports

Wow, yeah I'm completely mistaken. I just checked with multiple lenses and sure enough set custom WB is available in all modes. I'm happily wrong here. Thanks for pointing it out! Now I need to go back and check the GH4, haha!
No worries! The GH4 couldn't do it, but the GH5 can :)

Cheers,

Paul :)

Has anyone figured out if it is possible to assign the "record" button to another location? I haven't been able to assign that function to any other buttons and I'm having trouble getting used to finding that button quickly and would love to have it in a more accessible location, preferably not the touch-screen.

You can use the normal photo shutter button too. That's the one I usually use since the Rec button has always been in weird positions.

HTH!

Paul :)

Regarding the metabones issue, I have an older Speedbooster S EF version, with no physical button. So am I right in assuming that there is no "Green" mode for mine? Am I just out of luck until they release a firmware update?

Does the speedbooster send focal length information to the camera, or do you manually need to set it for IBIS?

I'm in the same boat, I think we're out of luck for the time being. The speedbooster should send the info to the camera though since it's an electronic adapter.

Your kidding right? A $260 lens vs a $1200 one.

Funny thing is I hate Sony colors and think the GH5 image is better. Hahahahaha maybe that was the point you were trying to make.

Cheers, Pete

Settings on both cameras:
UHD 25p, 1/50, F3.2, ISO200, Daylight white balance

To the left - Sony A7SII/Batis 85/1.8:
EOS Pro Colour

To the right - Panasonic GH5/Olympus 45/1.8:
REC709

What profile did you use with the GH5 ?

The GH5 footage has more contrast, which might be your choice of camera profile.

I often use "Natural" ( with contrast turned down all the way ), "Cine-D", or "V-Log L" for most shoots.

This isn't really a helpful test.

1. The Batis is an awesome lens, the olympus isn't.
2. Both @ 1.8 is not equivalent DoF, Sony should be stopped down more
3. Framing is noticeably different
4. Picture profile settings are everything. The GH5 looks overly contrasty here (and a little over-sharpened) and that is not the look I am getting on mine at all. First, change the picture profile settings and adjust appropriately to bring the cameras into line. Second, electronic native M43 lenses have added digital corrections and sharpening.

A much more effective test would be Sony A7S II on a Zeiss Milvus 50mm and then on GH5 with Zeis Milvus and speedbooster XL (or even a Voigtlander 25mm - though lens character differences contribute more to look than small focal changes), with cameras setup and matched via Paul's LEEMING LUTs.

The test doesn't really show me anything other than two cameras setup very differently, with the GH5 setup with very punchy contrast and a cheap native electronic lens.

+1....Wholeheartedly agree with you on this!...Of course add good glass and it would be even more glaring!

The Oly 45mm f/1.8 is a mushy washed out dog compared to the Panasonic 42.5 f/1.7 with the 42.5mm f/1.2 being in a similar realm to the Batis. Just curious what you thought interesting about posting this strange comparison?

Cheers,
Pete
