GH5 GH5 new IS lock stabilator

The new IS lock stabilator is incredible. It "glues" the lens in static clips but it helps in other ways too.

Surprisingly the IS lock makes walking with camera very stable and smooth. It makes "floating" stabilization and keeps the frame balanced smoothly. Combined with DUAL IS2 lens and e-stabilization the walking with camera is very smooth and stable. I have used my 14-140 II lens.

Actually it is not freezing the scene. It makes smoothly floating very stable video and when I pan the image follows with a little delay and starts and stops very smoothly.

Yes, amazing. Just hope it gets available to 4K/6K Photo and stills, as it must add a couple of stops over the supposed 4 with IBIS only in non-OIS lenses.

Any extra additional benefit of combining IS lock with a gimbal? Or is it too much of a a good thing?

This new function is great for paning or for static shot, but not while walking.

It has a tendency to stick or freeze the frame. If doing very slow pan it may stop or stick. It has a "floating" movement. It needs more testing but as long as it is moving (not sticking) it moves very smoothly.

The function is designed for static shots, as soon as you want to move the camera you should disable it.

Thats the theory. Have you tested it? It smooths gimbal like walking.

Fortunately IS lock works so that I can turn it on/off during recording and using the FN-button near lens it is very easy to toggle. Thanks Panasonic!

Everybody should try this as Vesku suggests it works great.

It's great for run and gun B-roll (like a cooking show) where you need to do a series of static close up shots very quickly without setting up a tripod. I have mine assigned to the button by the lens as well. It's a great feature.

I'm excited for something like the EVA-1 as a S35 is desireable.

However excellent features like this make it quite difficult of a proposition to think of OMB / run'n'gun life without the GH5's IBIS...

I want the extra DR and lowlight and the highlight roll off and image rendetion... but the GH5 looks great... is it worth giving up the stabilization for my shooting style? Debates...

I have a simple question that will clear everything up; will your clients be able to see the difference?

If the answer is yes go with the EVA-1 if it’s no the GH5 wins.

Anyone tried to assign a setting to Fn 20? It's the down button on the scroll wheel. I tried to assign it to IS lock but it does nothing. I tried to assign it to AF mode as well but also nothing. Ended up assigning IS lock to Fn 17, the up button on the scroll wheel and that works. Seems like Fn 20 not working might be a firmware bug? I'm running the newest 2.1 firmware.

The problem I found with assigning it to a fn button is that pressing the button doesn't make it show in the VF unless the VF is in the 'full info' mode so you don't know if you are switching it on or off.
