GH5 GH5 Moire

A little history here but when HD cameras first came out and we down converted to DVD many had the same problem. Scaling very fine detail down to a lower resolution tends to yield details that would normally be impossible. We even saw this when we did animated photo montages and we had high detailed large photos scaled down to fit SD video with slight zooms or movements. This was murder with an interlaced down conversion but even progressive videos could suffer. The trick is to filter the image a bit more like others have said and add a slight blur to help reduce the problem. The higher the detail in the source the more likely scaling it down could yield some moire. If the source has a low pass filter and the debayering in general doesn't yield a ton of fine detail (GH4) you are much safer to down convert without hitting that threshold.

The reality here is the GH5 is just too darn good at capturing insane amounts of detail. If I rendered out a 3D animation that sharp I would likely have similar problems down converting it. The GH5 isn't faulty or any less of a professional camera. It just provides detail that sometimes need to be massaged a bit better to yield the desired results for a moving image scaled down.
