GH5 GH5 IS lock with OL 12-100?

The 12-100 has (unusualy for olympus) lens IS which I believe overrides / disables body IS on the GH5 but can anyone confirm if this means the 'IS lock' feature is also not available? I've found this feature to be incredibly useful with all sorts of lenses but I'm particularly interested getting the 12-100 for it's range and constant aperture.

I don't have the Oly 12-100, but I do have an adapted 4/3 Pana-Leica 14-150 OIS that the flat amazing IS Lock of the GH5 and G9 functions with, but only with OIS on. IBIS/Video lock works in my Metabones T-Smart adapted Canon 100-400 II OIS, but only if lens mounted w/ OIS off, unlike native Panny m4/3 OIS lenses where IBIS never available. If it willl work with these lenses, seems good chance with the Oly.

You can use IBIS and IS Lock in camera on any lens.

You will not be able to use either in CONJUNCTION with the Olympus lens IS.

You will likely want to opt to disable the Olympus lens IS and just use internal IBIS and/or IS-Lock. Because yes, if you enable the lens IS, no IBIS (including IS lock) will be able to be used at the same time - the lens will override. But, you can just turn that off on the lens to re-enable the in camera options.

The only lenses supporting lens IS in combination with in body stabilization (referred to as Dual IS) are the Panasonic lenses. Pana-Leica series for example, or the Pana Lumix Vario 12-35 / 35-100 are another example.

I assume you own this lens and a GH5? According to my research the GH5's body stabiliser is disabled when you attach this lens and cannot be used or chosen as an option. If this not your experience and the GH5's IS can indeed be activated then I'll go out and buy one.

I have the 12-100 and it disables GH5's own stabilization.

If the IS switch is turned to off on the 12-100mm lens does the IBIS turn on? That’s how it works with EF lenses, so imagine it’s the same.

And is I.S. Lock available with the 12-100mm? With EF lenses I.S. Lock is available with the IS switch any either position.

I don't own that lens, but I do own the GH5.

I've never used a lens with lens IS that disable the GH5 IBIS *even when the lens' IS is set to off*. So if this olympus lens forced IBIS to disable even when the lens IS is turned off, that would seem to be a bizarre quirk (I'd call it a fault) of this lens and would surprise me. Couldn't tell ya.

I just double checked and it does disable the IBIS regardless of lens IS setting. This will probably get firmware updated the 12-100 is relatively new. I don't mind it because the IS is extremely good and I use that lens with the GH5s mostly.

Thanks for the replies and I’ll hold off on the 12-100 until the BMPCC 4k arrives or Panasonic update their firmware however I suspect they may have deliberately crippled this lens on their bodies to protect their 12-60 sales so this may not ever happen....

Panny Cameras that have IBIS only work in dual IS mode with certain Panny lenses, it does not work with most lenses.
Cheers

The oly 12-100 looks like a great lens, and they keep churning out great glass. It is too bad that the Oly/Panny glass' OIS isn't compatible for Dual IS/Sync IS on their respective bodies.

Does anyone know if...

1. It is technically possible to make them compatible if Panny/Oly shared code with eachother?
2. The business likelihood of that ever happening?

Oly 12-100 with Dual IS on a GH5 would be killer.

Not likely to happen. That said, the Panny Leica 12-60 is also an excellent lens, has stepless iris, very fast and very quiet auto focus motors, and is parfocal. It also works with the GH5 for dual IS.
Cheers

I know that on Olympus cameras you get dual IS.

I haven’t used this lens really as the slow aperture was a bit of a turn off for the work I do.

Let me see what I can discover with “my people”.
