GH4 GH5 4k 10 Bit not supported Davinci Resolve 14

H.264 High 10 or higher profiles are only supported by the studio version, but it is only $299 and you get a whole audio suite with it.

The thing is, I'm tempted by the Pro version at $299 for the 4K DCI spec, and happy to pay that, but like everyone else I'm going to make sure the workflow to switch systems is working first throughout the chain. So seeing my GH5 files come up with Media Offline means I'm never going to upgrade to Pro, because there's no way to test the workflow first.

They need to fix that pronto, otherwise they will simply be known as yet another broken software suite for the GH5....

I just bought studio version will update later. I have to see for my self

To update everyone - I had someone test my own footage on a Studio copy of v14 and it DOES work.

The limitation appears to be the free version not supporting H264 at 10bit.

This is a pain as I'd like to test my workflow for DCI 4K using the free version, but at $299 I may just plonk down for the Studio version once released as it's cheap enough to be used as a second arrow in the quiver and a possible shift to Resolve for editing if Adobe doesn't pull their fingers out and get the GH5 working properly.

Cheers,

Paul :)

You can buy the studio version today, and 12.5 users have a free upgrade to Resolve 14.

While I support folks buying the software because it's so affordable, a work-around is transcoding your GH5 h264 footage via AME to ProRes 422. That should retain all the 10-bit data, and it turns it into a format Resolve 14 (studio or free) is very happy with. I was just scrubbing a transcoded 4k clip (corrected) on a 3-yr old MBP without issue.

Wish you could purchase directly from BMD, waiting for a back-ordered dongle from B&H seems silly.. where else will they take my money? The App Store? Seems silly to give Apple 30%..

Looks like an update to MAC OS for the GH5 landed today. I'm going to install shortly. Fingers X compatibility is there in the FINDER as well as improved performance elsewhere!

Sadly - although the info about the update says it now supports GH5 i've noticed no difference in Finder behaviour. The 10 bit files are still not recognised by QuickTime Player. Darn.......
