Can anyone please help. I just purchased the " GH4 - YAGH Interface - Atomos Shogun " What is the best way to record audio through the YAGH, what microphones, cabels etc, to achieve the very best audio recording. Please any advice will be extremely appreciated.

Mr. Country,

You've got no replies because 99.9% of people here don't know.

It's also too much information for me to type out an entire "best practices" for the YAGH for you, but if you call my office on or after January 7, I'm happy to go through it all with you. (323)230-3589

That's a bit harsh. The second part of your statement is closer to the truth for many of us, and if you can't do it even though you have an "ulterior" motive, what do you expect from the rest of us?

Here's everything you need to know about recording audio for video:

TL;DR version: esoteric mics that cost $$$$ will not save you from putting the mic on the camera rather than putting it where it belongs (near the talent), but knowledge of a few simple rules can help you get really great results from mics that cost $100-$200.

Not in the video, but easy to understand: if your mic has an XLR output (the three-pronged pointy interface), you can use an XLR cable straight into the YAGH. If you don't get sound from the mic, switch on the Phantom Power switch and try again. If your mic has any other kind of output, you probably have to study whether it's balanced or not, stereo or not, needing phantom or not, and cable and power appropriately.
