GH4 GH4 WiFi Remote Shooting & View "Connection Failed"

I was really excited to hear that I could monitor video and start recording remotely on my GH4 with my iPhone. It sounds awesome, but I haven't been able to actually get it to function. Both me and my boss purchased GH4s and cannot get either of our iPhones to work with either of our GH4s. I couldn't imagine receiving two faulty cameras or having two incapable iPhones. So what gives? Anyone else experiencing this issue with their new GH4?

I have had it work perfectly when I connect my iphone, ipad, or android tablet to the GH4's created wi-fi network and stayed within reasonable proximity. It's been a little more complicated connecting to a common wifi network, and been a little more hit or miss, but to be fair I really have only done it a couple of times and when I've had trouble I'm usually trying to do it from memory. I'm sure with practice will (hopefully) be a piece of cake.

Are you connecting to the GH4's wi-fi network or trying to connect to a wi-fi router?

It gets spotty between my Galaxy S4 and my GH4, with the same Connection Failed message. When I use my tablet, it works fine so I suspect the WiFi antenna may be the issue.

I hade just done a job with the GH4 where I used the app on the iPhone for the producer to monitor.
It worked OK. But it wasn't super stable. after a little while the camera started being unresponsive to some commands, lag quite a bit when the record button was pressed. It crashed twice, where I had to remove the battery and restart. I hope it gets more stable, and also in a version where you only have monitoring, and can't input any camera command. Full screen would also be nice.

After much struggle last night, I was finally able to get the Remote Shooting to work. After completely wiping my iPhone and reinstalling the Panasonic app, it worked. I have no idea how or why this fixed the issue, but I'm just glad I can use it now.

Its working brilliantly for me on all my Samsung android devices, the range is limited on the S4 but it will actually re-acquire if I take a step closer at the range limit. This for me, is one of the most valuable improvements over the GH3. I wouldn't use it as a monitoring solution but in a pinch in a OMB 2 cam interview I wouldn't hesitate to use it on the B cam.

I do a lot of one man shows where I'm filming myself on a green screen. My work is cut so far down now as I can start and stop and change settings of the GH4. I get it framed up and focused first (using a cardboard cutout stand-in) and then I just step in and start and stop the camera from my HP Touchpad running Android, and use my iPhone to control my iPad teleprompter. Shooting in 4K I can punch in about 50% without losing any perceivable quality in a 1080p upload for youtube, so I only need one camera, one shot. I've cut my time down to probably half of what it used to take me. Now if I can just get a robot to do the talking and editing for me, I won't have to do anything!
