Hi Guys

Im going to buy a GH4 this week and was just wondering if there was any difference focally between the EF and Nikon versions of the Speedbooster? I already have a Tamron 17-50mm in Nikon mount so was leaning towards the Nikon mount version until I started reading about the higher crop factor whilst shooting in 4K. Do both versions of the Speedbooster have the same field of view?

Many thanks

The SpeedBoosters designed for the GH cameras all use the same power focal reducer. It's possible to use more powerful SpeedBoosters designed for BlackMagic's m4/3 mount cameras on the GHs but there are compromises & risks.

The EF>m4/3 SpeedBoosters are Metabones' most expensive models but also the only ones that support a lens' built-in Image Stabilization.

I want to squeeze as much as I could from the cropped sensor so I got the nikon to m 4/3 for BMCC. As Bern said, there are risks, and that the sb just touches the shutter guide frame. But the sensor is safe and so is the SB since the rear element lens is still a bit recessed and only the metal casing is touching the shutter guide.

So instead of a 2x crop from m4/3 sensor at HD and even more 2.3ish crop at 4k I'm only getting 1.3 ish x crop, close to aps-h. The speedbooster for nikon-m4/3 "standard" has a 1.5 crop at fullhd.

The trick is to turn off mechanical shutter and just use electronic shutter. This is not an issue when shooting video. You can also take photos with electronic shutter albeit with certain limitation with shutter speed options.
