GH4 GH4 vs A7ii

And go...

Love the full frame of the A7ii tho I'm nervous about keeping video in focus (used to shooting on T4i)

This will also be our family's stills camera so I'm not crazy about the small sensor of the GH4 and missing so much of the "picture"

Having never used any DSLR besides 4/3, I've no frame of reference for comparison. I can only say that if I need a wider shot, I either zoom out or back up, so this seems a silly thing to mark as a negative in the GH4 column.

I have seen situations where the depth of field was soooo shallow using a Canon than the shooter could not get the entire face in focus. If the eyes were in focus, then the ears were out of focus. Too shallow a focus range IS a legitimate thing to be concerned about, especially in shooting environments where you might not have the kind of time or control that you need to make it work well, and you have to rely on the capabilities of the camera/lens.

I was afraid this confusion would happen. A7II is 35mm mirrorless, A77II is APS DSLR (with fixed beam splitter).

Well, I messed that all up! My bad, I guess the dpreview front page was subconsciously painting a whole other camera in my head.

With that out of the way, how do you think Sony's 50Mbps will hold up against the GH4? I think this is the only deciding point, from a video perspective. But in stills mode, having eight more megapixels is not to be overlooked. But I wonder why the max ISO is so low on the A7II? Other than that maybe someone who has actually used both can chime in. Did you post something similar in the Sony forum?
