GH4 GH4 video noise NR comparison

What do you think about GH4 noise reduction? I have a comparison of the same clip with NR -5 and NR 0. Other settings were iso3200, natural contrast -5, color 0, sharpness 0. iDynamic was standard and there is heavy underexposing. I think NR-5 is much better.

Yep, if you're looking for a natural look, disable NR, sharpness and iDynamic. ;-)

NR is exactly what the name implies. An attempt to reduce the noise through some sort of image processing method. If you want a natural image you should steer as far away from in camera processing as humanly possible. Well within certain reason of course. Sometimes it can't be helped for things like color if you don't want to abuse the 8 bit format. Depends how far you intend to push the color during color correction.

Sure it may get rid of the visible noise in certain cases but at what expense? Noise is what it is and despite the view of the sterile generation is not such a bad thing. People are used to seeing noise, they are not used to seeing smeary blobs of pixels dance around the screen like pixel diarrhea.

Depends on what your finished production is for. After my own tests last year, on the type of internet material I produce, I found +5 NR works the best, shooting up to 2500ISO. Everyone has their own setup, there is no magic setting.
