GH4 GH4 V-log?

this is all welcome, but is it part of the upgrade or only available in the UK on the new camera? New Camera specs also says ISO in video recording up to 25.800 ISO

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the same Venus engine that's also in our current GH4's??? Which also uses max ISO 25800 (in photos only though.).

New to V-log,

Is V-log just for using LUTS?
Is V-log flatter than using pedestal/curves/cine-d ect?
Is 8-bit enough for v-log?
V-log can't increase DR right?
Buy V-log now or plan on GH5 with V-log?

I suggest a bit of research. This thread can answer most of your questions. Panasonic's own page - linked above - answers one of them.

UK V-Log Hunters:

OK so I just called the Panasonic Store Leeds. They're a franchise and didn't know anything about it but I chatted to a helpful chap called David who just happened to be a GH3 enthusiast and he chased it up for me. He said it should be available for order next week and will be a physical item. He quoted me £79.99 as a "good" price he could offer - he said RRP will probably be £99 (good old blighty and VAT eh?).

If you're having trouble getting hold of it in the UK I suggest calling the Leeds store and asking to speak to David: 01132 446607
The more enquiries they get the more likely they are to get on top of getting orders sorted ...

I've read pretty much all of this thread and never did get the answer... Is 8 bit enough? Or is this really only intended for HDMI/SDI recording?

Because there isn't a clear cut answer. Just look at how C-Log divides people. Personally I think it looks great, even on the 25mbps C100. But S-Log2 on the 50mbps A7S looks like crap. My guess is that 12 stops in 100mbps 4K is going to be fine. You can see that from the footage we've already seen. It's not perfect but it's definitely no worse than Cine-D when it comes to noise and colour. I'm sure we'll see comparisons with 10bit 422 using the Shogun and it'll sure be interesting - because so far there has been very little perceptible difference between 8bit to SD and 10bit to HDMI (even for grading IMHO).

Is the V-Log upgrade region specific? my GH4 was bought in Hong Kong, can I purchased the upgrade from B&H?

Okay, just got of phone with B&H photo. This is a physical thing you will get, meaning you will get some type of card in an envelope according to them. First he said that it was a thing that they would email out, but then he checked with their buyers and they said that it is something that they will send out via ordinary mail.

I wonder if you'll be able to buy it in a store?

Yes, you can buy it in store from select GH4 retailers. Hot Rod Cameras is one of them and we will shortly be announcing our "upgrade party" on (or around) September 15. In addition to food and drinks, for our V-Log-L customers who don't want to mess with firmware HRC will be doing free professional firmware updates during the party.

We have been involved in the GH4, V-log-L, and Anamorphic modes, including development, testing and upgrades from the beginning, and as such we will also be the first to have it in stock.

It's surely been posted before but here's the first V-log-L project also shot in the anamorphic mode on the GH4

So with this update does the GH4 support LUT monitoring from the camera, or will it require an external monitor which supports LUTs?

Does this mean that people from other regions than USA can order from B&H photo and be done with it?

New to V-log...

Is V-log just for using LUTS?
Yes, unless you enjoy starting from scratch with a dingy gray image.

Is V-log flatter than using pedestal/curves/cine-d ect?
Not really, but it's more precisely calibrated.

Is 8-bit enough for v-log?
Not quite, but if you expose carefully, no one will notice.

V-log can't increase DR right?
It increases dynamic range at the expense of tonal range. YMMV

Well he said you can place your order and pay the extra shipping to Sweden. He said nothing about any restrictions. I cant imagine that this update has different versions depending on region. I mean, if the ordinary updates dosent have region specific updates why would this have it.

Here is how it works in my mind: When you install the 2.3 update, the V log is on board but hidden in the menu. When you enter all the info and import the file to the camera it simply adds it to the menu. So I guess that you could say that anyone that installs the 2.3 update has V log but its hidden.

So thats why I dont belive that this is a region-specific thing.
