GH4 GH4 V-log?

I look at this differently. It basically replaces your dslr stills camera and your 4K video camera. Then pricing looks very reasonable.

LOL....

LOL....

The new GH4 V Log L is out now. It has a new name. A7rII. It's not free.

This cracked me up!!! Panasonic has dragged this crap out so long I have moved on! They are holding out for just a Log Profile while Sony is killing the market with their new cameras.

I'll take my GH4 with me for stills & video when I do the Rhine river vacation. But for serious still work I use my 5DmkIII.

Question...in regards to shooting stills...not video, I have only ever shot Canon. Is the Sony RAW stills workflow any different? I know the resolution of the A7Rii is significantly better than the 5D3....are there other benefits or drawbacks?

I have never personally owned a Sony cam. I have been resistant for years, but the A7Rii definitely peaks some interest. I guess I am one who has been on the fence about Canon lately. I love their color science, but the rate they release new tech is painful sometimes.

Sony RAW edit just like any other RAW format. I don't own a Canon DSLR anymore. I now have the GH4, A7s and a6000. I prefer the look of the APS-C and full frame for stills over MFT. The Sony a6000 is one hell of a camera for both stills and HD capture.

Why are people even discussing photography, I thought this was a video forum? Could be wrong. Maybe there are some photo professionals on here.

We've also got Sony cameras and a pile of jokers, along with the usual doom merchants.....

Since there's really nothing new to say until it get's here, I need to stop clicking into this train wreck of a thread and just wait for other conformation of the V-Log release.

Just a question my friend. Actually the first time I have ever mentioned stills on here. I asked it because its relevant (at least to me). Most of the small camera class do both. Most people looking at cameras such as the GH4, A7s, Ar7II, or own a 5D3, 1dX, or even a 1DC for that matter, also shoot stills. Its all part of "weighing the options."

It's relevant to almost everyone. I don't think I actually know a person that main profession is filming and doesn't do photography. Does anyone knows such a person? (not necessary commercial photography)

Exactly! GH4 does nice photos but for serious stuff you need something different.

Sony RAW edit just like any other RAW format.
Also A7rII doesn't do true RAW at this moment. That's something you have to consider. Will come later down the line probably but it's not present there yet.

Really? I am purely a videographer and don't do any sort of professional photography only...and I know lots of people who are the same or vice versa (for photographers).

Yea, this is a pretty silly convo. Sorry for the derail. When was the last time you were on set and the director just directed? ...or the gaffer only had lighting skills...or the dolly grip only had a talent for pushing things around? For that matter, when was the last time you were around musicians and the guitarist only played guitar....or drummer only played a kit...or piano player only played an upright?

You would be surprised what mastering human production photography will do to your videography. Learning to direct human subjects and capture a perfect moment in emotion, composition, lighting....and seeing a creative direction through....to be judged as a single still image is an incredible skill that if applied to videography...will change the way you think and work for the better.

Not or knowing the principles of phototography....well...they don't call it DP for nothing.

I do plenty of photography, just not for money. I use the GH4 because of its small size I can pack my entire kit into a small ICU and go into the backcountry for a week. I could argue those points all day but I understand your perspective.

IBC is a little over a month away. They say they will announce delivery date on Sept 1st.

But honestly... Who really knows?

I say we get back to some hard core bickering in the mean time. :nads:
