GH4 GH4 on Steadicam Pilot VL (SD monitor)

I am thinking on purchasing a used steadicam best, arm, monitor, battery, mounting stand, etc. for $1600 but am having doubts due to the absence of an HD --> SD downconverter as I will need to purchase one the likes of atmos S2H for an additional $300. Are there alternate/cheaper ways to get the monitor to communicate with my GH4 and, if not, is the purchase still a decent deal at a $1900 total?

EDIT - I have seen one person in a steadicam forum mention a cheap model similar to this - pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=321823350128&alt=web - which seems to work in every mode but 4k. Can this be confirmed by anyone as I rarely shoot 4k and this would be a great solution if there's no other drawbacks

Thanks much!

I'm thinking about selling mine - I ran a custom HDMI cable through the sled thus eliminating the issue. Any HD monitor can then be used.

Is there a monitor that can be powered by the sled under $300 you can suggest? If so, that could be a viable option

This runs on 12v power and would have the requisite inputs. Is it just as simple as mounting the new monitor where the SD monitor was using the same mount and power cord and winding an HDMI cable up the arm? If so, sounds like the best possible plan

Yes that Aputure monitor should work fine. I have used a SmallHD DP6 in the past. A lot of monitors will run off 12V power. I converted my Pilot to use Panasonic CGA d54 bats @12V. Plug in the power cable from the Pilot sled into the Aputure monitor before you run the HDMI to test. The Pilot uses a 1/4 20 screw for the monitor mount - it's universal.

You can use a tablet to monitor gh4 via wifi without the need for cables, i'm not sure how well it would work or if there's an latency issues, but it's an option.

I'm curious to know how difficult this was, as I've considered doing it. Could you post any pictures?
Thanks.
