GH4 GH4 - No Internal Recording when connected HDMI to external monitor - Little Help

I'm a new GH4 user and was surprised when I hooked my SmallHD DP6 monitor to the GH4 via HDMI. Picture pops up and look great. The problem starts when trying to record internally - it won't do it in any of the codec setting or frame rates. Drop it in record and the message reads that the record is " currently disabled and in a 10 bit mode." No problem, in the camera menu I switch the output to 8 bit - still viewing things in the external monitor just find. When I drop the GH4 in record in the 8 bit mode I get an animated hour glass and a 'please wait' message that never ends - still no recording.

I know I'm new to this camera, so what am I doing wrong? Surely you can monitor the GH4 via HDMI and still record in camera.

Firmware upgraded to latest.

Thanks

I got the hourglass message once while plugged into HDMI after switching from 10 bit to 8 bit. I had to switch between dial modes and back to make it go away. It might be a software glitch. Strangely though, when I checked my card, what I thought wasn't recording with the hourglass message, actually recorded.

Thanks for the response Batutta. Are you able to record in camera with an external monitor attached via HDMI?

Yes. I was getting the same exact glitch. I had my camera plugged in, went to record and it gave the internal recording disabled in 10-bit mode. Switched to 8-bit. Hit record, and got the hourglass. I shut the camera off, turned it back on, tried again and got the same message. I was on dial setting C1. So I switched to M mode. Switched to 8-bit there and I could record internally. Went back to C1 and now it worked. I'm thinking maybe it has to be set to 8-bit on all dial modes.

Batutta, thanks for sharing that information. Exactly what you stated. I had saved some setting and had the camera parked in C1 which was a no go. Switched to Manual Cine mode and bang it works with all codecs and frame rates. Much appreciated and needed because I'm shooting a project tomorrow. Cheers.
