For all your GH4 users out there. What is your must have ideal setup?
  • Audio - mics, wireless, shotguns, etc.
  • Power
  • Lenses
  • Support - tripod, slider, gimble, etc.
Curious to see what everyone has, would like to have, or is planning on getting soon whether on a budget or not.

Waiting on any new release products as well coming out for the GH4?

A very personal thing and totally dependent on what you shoot. For me it is wildlife doco primarily so lenses range from 105mm f/2.8 micro Nikkor with extension tube through to 80-400 nikkor plus 7-14 panny, 12-40 Olympus pro, 35-100mm Panny which and Olympus 60mm micro, just about covers the whole gambit except for fisheye which I will probably look at for underwater once Nauticam have sorted out their new GH4 housing.

Add to that an Atomos Shogun when released proveded they have sorted out the triggering.

For sound, sony and Sennheiser wireless mics, Rode NTG2 feeding into a Marantz 661, connecting to the GH4 with cabling from Markertec, using the Y-MFS-2P and the LN2MIC-ZOOMH4N cables to take care of the 'line out' to GH4 connection and attenuation.

Rails and mountings are Varavon cage with CoolCD.com bits and pieces and seriously guys if you need cage and rail bits check out CoolCD... no I have no connection with the company, they are simply damn good and exquisite engineered.

Sticks are Velbon 1 and 2 stage plus a 6" bowl manfrotto short set all heavy for stability.

That should lighten you bank balance!!

Check out the Best-Cage-for-the-GH4-with-locking-device-for-it-s-HDMI-connector as well there is some good info to help you set up, plus I have added pics of the Varavon cage and discussed a few limitations.

Most of my support gear never changes. My theory.... Purchase support gear which will work with any camera, and last the majority of my career.

The camera on the other hand, changes very often!

The same can be said about audio gear if you do it right. A darn good shotgun mic will last you for a huge chunk of your career. Some of my favorite mics to use are well over 10 years old. Try doing that with a camera. Just look at how ancient the Sennheiser 416 shotgun is and to this day still a staple in movie production.

Since we all have such different needs I don't believe it's possible to come up with any comprehensive list of must have accessories.

But in my daily usage of the GH4 as a personnel, & documentary, camera I do have one accessory that's typically attached. It is Edelkrone's Pocket Support. I mostly use it as a gunstock with my eye pressed to the GH4's EVF. In this configuration only the first section get's extended while the remaining are formed into a "V" that makes contact with my shoulder. The gunstock is quite compact but the extra contact point greatly increases stability when shooting handheld.

Also have their Pocket Handles for those times I need a bit more stability (in a stealth form factor) but don't always have them attached to camera the way I do the Pocket Support.
