So the Gh5 will be announced momentarily...and the price of the Gh4 will drop by 50%…

That is how it always works...

Anyway, suggestions on a lens? I am starting with my doc on birds endemic to the Sacramento-San Joaquin valley. And doing some oral histories, which is a passion.

I want an all-purpose zoom. Either a Panasonic or a Canon, since I have a friend who is selling several lenses to me cheap, if I want them.

Oh, and I`m going to need a tripod w/ a fluid head, maybe $600 or so...

I finally got my tax return...

Since you'll be on the long end of the lens I'd stick with native micro four thirds lenses. And something with built in OIS. Considering how far you'll have to zoom for bird shots, not sure you will find one all purpose zoom. Probably better, and cheaper to get two separate ones, a short to medium range zoom (14-140). And a long one (100-400).

Olympus 75-300 will serve you well for the birds. Does not have IS but if you are on a tripod it shouldn't matter. There are better lenses but not at this price point. The birds in this video were shot with it.
