GH4 GH4 HDMI output i or p ?

Can somebody please confirm if it is at all possible to get an interlaced HD signal for monitoring on an EVF or LCD that supports only an 1080i signal from the GH4? I've read on Philip Blooms The Evolving review of the GH4 that when he set the camera to AVCHD that he got an interlaced output from the HDMI. Can somebody please confirm that you can get an interlaced HD signal when shooting UHD?

Here's what he wrote: "Interestingly, to get both my Convergent Design 7Q and Atomos Ninja Blade to get the output I had to set the camera to AVCHD mode. I have no idea why. This isn’t ideal, as it will output the image in a 50i or 60i stream depending on your record frequency. It just adds another post step. It is worth it though to get that 10 bit. This does seem a bit odd, I will investigate!"

Thx

Huh, Ninja doesn't accept a 25/30p signal right? It doesn't look good...

Its not that the Ninja doesn't accept a 25/30 signal - it does :)

its that the GH4 is using the set system frequency for the HDMI output, not the frame rate you select (well apart from when in AVCHD mode)

My spreadsheet btw! :D

I think the Ninja does. B&H page says supported formats:
HD 1080i60, 1080i59.94, 1080i50, 1080p30, 1080p25,
1080p24, 1080p23.98, 1080p30(60i), 1080p25(50i),
1080p24(60i), 1080p23.98(60i), 720p60, 720p59.94,
20p50, SD 480i, 576i

Well I guess that Atomos will fix that, but for me, that's not good news. I have a Cineroid EVF-4C that won't accept the signal from GH4... I guess we'll have to return it for the 1x more expensive model RVW. Are you sure that you can't record UHD when in AVCHD? It seems like that GH4 does indeed output an interlaced signal when in AVCHD mode...

My spreadsheet btw! :D

Thx!:)

Thanks for the spreadsheet @TheTrickster.I also noticed that the Ninja doesn't support the 0-255 range. Super whites are fine, but anything below 16 is black. I don't know if this effects other recorders, monitors and evfs too, whether it might be a limitation of HDMI.

Hi

Has anyone tried changing the HDMI Play mode (under TV Connection) to 1080i or other required output?

Regards

Phil

I don't think those settings are for live view but rather for playing recorded material...?
