GH4 GH4 Firmware Update on Mac?

Hi Guys
I'm trying to U/date GH4 firmware on a Mac : the downloaded file (GH4_VII.bin) won't unzip, it just creates a duplicate zip file: GH4_VII.bin.cpgz. Which then creates a duplicate.
Have any of you successfully updated on a Mac? What am I doing wrong? I tried Googling issue but little said...
Thanks

A 'bin' file is not a 'zip' file. I've not updated the firmware on my GH-1 since perhaps the first release of a firmware update shortly after the product was introduced.

But as I recall, one placed the 'bin' file on an SD card, put the card into the camera, and the powered the camera on... the camera then processed the bin file and updated the firmware.

That's it in a nutshell. Except you need to press the playback button. Updated my camera using a Mac just the other day. Worked seamlessly. Just remember, make sure you have a full battery and don't touch ANYTHING (on the camera :cheesy:) until the update is complete. I also had nothing on the SD card other than the update.

Many thanks Guys. The zip look of the bin file through me, I didn't want to be the first to contribute to the "brick" wall. Cheers!

Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem upgrading my GH4, ( that's currently running firmware version 2.1 ), to 2.4 so I can install the V-Log upgrade.
I download the file and transfer it to a newly formatted card, ( formatted in the GH4 ), but the camera doesn't recognise the file at all. No upgrade path. In clues as to what I'm doing wrong here?
Thanks!,
PM

** I forgot to mention that I am using a Mac, have no access to a Windows/PC machine

Did you unzip the file and put the .bin file on the card? The camera won't recognize a zip file.

I remember reading something about firmware updates not being recognized on larger cards, 64GB and up I believe, so maybe try a smaller card.

Never been able to update either of GH4s using Sandisk 64GB 95MB/s cards. Same issue existed with my GH3s. Solution was to use older, & lesser, cards.

FWIW I'm also a Mac user.

Thanks everyone........I just kept on doing the same things, then suddenly it took. No idea why, but the GH4 now has been updated and V-Log is installed. Now to see if it was worth the trouble and expense!
