GH4 GH4 at 6400 ISO in Monochrome trick...

Does anyone know if this little "hack" works on the GH4? It'd be interesting to see if it did.

From the article the reason the GH2 is capable of going to 12800 ISO, is because it is running The Hack (or one of them...), and running at a higher bit rate than the unhacked GH2...

So, until the GH4 is hacked, and any controls on high ISO in movie mode removed (currently from the specs ISO 6400 is the max for movie making.), then one is limited to what the standard firmware does.

Other than that, yes, I think monochrome can make higher ISO values 'usable', because part of the artifacts of the high ISO is 'color noise' which is more objectionable than B&W-esque 'grain'.

There is also pattern noise to contend with as well for the high ISO's... but once those are dealt with, one could have 'useful' shots.

The GH4 can easily go to 12,800 with the same manipulation that will drive the GH3 to 12,800, and the unhacked GH2 to 6400: Set your ISO @ 6400, in either S or A mode so that EC is active. Then adjust your S or A in a darkish environment so that the histogram is clearly on the dark side, and start turning the EC wheel for + comp. Nothing happens until you pass +2 EV, at which point the three clicks to +3 will brighten the screen incrementally for a full EV gain to 12,800 equivalent - ISO "overdrive" I call it.

This can be confirmed by shooting a still at 12,800 at the same aperture and shutter settings and comparing it to a video frame capture.
