GH4 Aerial footage

I've been trying to work out which Zenmuse z15 to get, GH4, 5DIII or Blackmagic.... Scouring YouTube for videos to make up my mind.

These video just tipped me over the edge... thought the GH4 had bad DR?!:

Do you have any experience with the Z15, David?

I was hoping to somehow go gh4 hdmi into the new ninja star to record 10bit prores, then hdmi out into the Z15. From studying photos, it seems unlikely.

Will be testing the GH4 and Z15 over the coming week ...

We will be doing a number of tests with the GH4 / Z15 on an S1000 octo this coming week. A good friend also has the same setup and just got his GH4 yesterday and he will be joining us for at least one day.

Particularly good news is the fact that DJI has just released new firmware for the Z15 that fixes the long-standing problem of having pan and tilt moves start and stop too abruptly. Users have had to resort to programming velocity curves in their radios or incorporate servo slowing devices to deal with this. DJI has finally addressed the issue and this should make a huge difference in the camera movement. We will be posting a detailed review on our site at the end of next week (www.visual-aerials.com).

We got our GH4 in earlier this week, before I send it off to HQ in China for Z15-GH4, I just want to point out that the Z15-GH3 balances out great with the GH4. Unfortunately, you're stuck with the miniHDMI cable for the GH3 and don't get the microHDMI flowing through the slipperings enabling 360 degrees turn. Otherwise, either LightBridge or SD Transmitter would work great when wired up.

Thanks, is there no kind of adapter to get it working smoothly? You must curse these manufacturers when they change one small detail like this!

The whole beauty of the Z15 is the fact that it is purpose built to just work... compromising with extra wires defeats the purpose a little

Just got this from our HQ sales team, of course, this stil doesn't flow through the slipperings (yet).

"Dear all,

Reminder: The HDMI cable will strangle onto the high end gimbal like NEX 7, GH3, 5D MARK 2/3 or others for high end fly platform. It probably will cause damage to either the HDMI cable or the high end gimbal (really low possibility for damage of gimbals), if it is carrying out YAW axis adjustment or movement.
The HDMI cable shipped with Lightbridge is supposed to be for installing on Phantom 2 as default, not officially for the high end Gimbals.
We highly recommend the Lightbridge to be installed onto Phantom 2. Risk Management must be taken care of if customers insist to install Lightbridge with our high end Gimbals.
DJI will offer free HDMI cable for DJI high end gimbal(Z15 series) in recent future."

That New Zealand footage is absolutely gorgeous. I thought I was all settled on a GoPro 3+ kit.

Now I'm thinking I want 4K on 4 rotors!!

hit up ostrc, they'll hook you up with a good deal. the Zero UAV High one is a beast. I'm talking to the vendor and I think there is a handheld attachment for the gimbal too but not sure how easy it will be to take offf and on. I'll post when I find out.

I guess this is a design advantage of the Zero UAV gimbal/rigs, 360 go go go. I'm a fan of zero UAV anyway. You never hear of zero UAV fly aways. And Dual GPS! Pretty excited about this rig. I had a phantom with 2 axis zenmuse and was going to upgrade to the phantom two with 3 axis but then saw this and said what the heck. however, I do have 3D aerobatic heli experience with large helicopters. I'm not sure if this is a wise step up for those with limited aerial experience. Stick with a phantom if you are new. less chance for crash loss. I'd like to see zero UAV come out with an entry level rig like the phantom.

Did a little FPV test flight with the High One and GH4 this eve. Nothing cinematic, just flying around. That's me standing near the maroon truck. My FPV monitor was really dark had to angle it 90 degrees from me to see so i didn't do much. Found out I had it set to low but didn't have the manual out in the field, couldn't figure out how to get to menu on site. This was shot with the panny 14mm pancake tomorrow I'll try with the Olympus 12mm.

Great looking stuff HAP!

I found a video by another guy flying the s1000, and gh4

I just placed an order with some really great guys at uavdirect.com for an s1000 build. so im hoping in about 2 weeks time to be up in the air with an s1000/gh4 combo as well.

Interestingly enough they also carry the zero tech high one, and e1100.

They even told me i could put the the zero tech parachute on the s1000. exciting times!

Here are some more tests:

This 4K

This is shot at 1080 200mbps

Stock props flex a bit getting some minor vibes. Will switch to t-motor high quality stiffer props soon and will fix all minor vibes

Aerial Photography with the GH4

G'Day Hap,

Have you guys anythougts or ideas on being able to get single shutter released as well as video out whilst flying, nearly everyone is talking about the GH4 video capabilities but I cant find anyone who also shoots aerial photography as well. The StratoSnapper only controlls video out and i havnt been able to find a system advertised that will do both shutter release and video control.. Any Ideas?

no. but the gimbal and platform one step up from this, for 5D, it has a shutter control. Everyone I know with this same rig has been using the timer to pop photos in air.
