GH3 GH3 with 14-140 vs HMC150

Just wanted to ask what you think is better in low light...GH3 with 14-140 or HMC150. Long story but these are the only options. Just looking for best picture. I just do not have time to do a thorough test to see. Any help appreciated.

Even with the slow 14-140 lens, I would say the GH3 will produce a better image in low light. The HMC150 was good for it's time, but that was more than 4 years back. ( I still use mine, but it would not be my first pick for low-light work )

+1...

However I'd change that situation ASAP. Even the $80 14-42 f3.5 will gain you almost one stop of light over the 14-140. There's a lot of cheap options out there including old glass. In low light, you need a fast lens.

Sorry guys but I am afraid I totally disagree. The HM 150/151 in it's range is still by far the best low light camera. I use both 151 and GH3 14-140. In low light the GH3 is fairly poor and really cries out for a fast lens. I always revert to the 151 for low light and even indoor shooting e.g. inside churches, banquet halls (for speeches), wedding dances etc.

I also own both cameras, and would never consider the HMC150 for low-light work.

My HMC150 at +12 dB gain equals my GH3 at 800 ISO, with the GH3 producing a sharper, cleaner image, with less noise in the darker tones.

I don't normally like to shoot higher than 800 ISO with my GH3, but if necessary I can take it up to 3200 ISO and still get a better image than what my HMC150 produces with +12 dB of gain.

Absolutely agree. I just shot a dimly lit concert with my GH3, GH2, and HMC150. The HMC150 was by far the noisiest image of the bunch. In fact I've decided to sell it because I think it's over the hill. I hardly ever use it anymore now that I've got the DSLRs.

So to answer the OP, I'd go with the GH3 and 14-140. Good luck with your shoot!

Thanks all for the help. I understand it is not ideal. It was just a thrown together shoot for charity and that is all we had. We were able to find another camera guy so we actually used both. I will definitely look at both to see which is better

12-35mm and 35-100mm f/2.8 lenses will be best with the GH3. Worth the investment and will pay it self off with a couple of jobs.
