GH3 GH3 Time Code Questions

Hey all -

It seems the only options for recording time code on the GH3 are either free run, with the time code constantly counting up, or rec run, with the time code counting up from wherever your last clip left off.
For example: If I record for 30 seconds, the time code on the next clip I record will start at 31 seconds unless I go all the way through the menu to reset the time code value.

While I can see where this is definitely useful, it makes it difficult to collaborate with others who are working off of proxies I've made to give me direction in editing.

So my questions are:

1. Is there some way to get the GH3 to reset the timecode automatically after each clip?
2. Is there some way to get my NLE (Premiere Pro) to recognize the start of each clip as 00:00:00:00?

Thanks for any and all help!

Maybe I'm missing something but why would you want each clip to have the same TC? I have always worked with unique TC values on every clip so that when a specific timecode is referenced I don't have 50 clips with the same TC value.

I don't work in typical film/video production settings. For some of my projects, I hand my footage over to collaborators in the community and they give me notes on edits they'd like. They're usually referencing clips they watch in their media player, so the notes I get are "trainstation1.mp4 0:29-1:04", etc. When my time code for that same shot(when working with the actual footage) starts at 18:19:58:23, it gets pretty time consuming doing the math or referencing the proxies every time. Also - the "clip => modify => time code" for some reason isn't enabled on the clips straight out of the GH3.

I understand your predicament but that's how Timecode works. It's either Free Run or Record Run. Having the TC restart at zero for each clip defeats the purpose of TC in the first place.
Whenever I send my footage off to collaborators, I put it all on a timeline in FCP or Premiere and apply the Timecode Effect. This brings up a burnt in TC display and you can set it to show each clips original TC rather than the timeline TC. Having the burnt in TC also makes it hard for others to use your work without your authorisation.

Also, if your collaborators are viewing on a computer, ask them to use QT Player. You can change the counter to display the source clips TC.

Thank you for the advice. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to reset the time code clock with each clip? Either in-camera or in post? The folks I work with have a hard enough time as it is - if I can make things easier for them in any way, I'd like to know how. Thanks!

Can't you just mark an IN point on your clip in your NLE and then just scroll the time listed by client? Its the same effect as starting at zeros and no math.

I've had some clients ignore timecode all together and go by runtime and it wasn't an issue using this method. In avid it was as simple as marking an IN at the start of clip then hitting + whatever number the client gave to get to the point.

Seriously, your collaborators can't use QT Player and change the default counter to Clip TC??
