GH2 GH3 Picture and promo video of the GH3 posted!!!

So based on the specs alone, what improvements are we to see on the gh3 vs the gh2? Right now my only gripe about the gh2 is the contrasty image and the lack of dynamic range. If neither of those are improved, I see no real reason for the switch.

One of the first GH3 features that popped up on the M4/3 Rumors site last month was "wide dynamic range sensor". We should find out Monday what the real deal is...

Hopefully this product intro video is not an elaborate hoax. :-)

I’ll probably get a "GH3", eventually, especially for its alleged 1080p60 capability (for slo-mo in 24p & 30p timelines). My Lumix m43 electronic lenses need a new camera body (I own a GH1 & GH2). This would be in addition to the Blackmagic Cinema Camera "EF" I have on pre-order.

However, for my purposes either the “GH3″ live 1080p HDMI output must be completely clean and standard for use with an external HDMI recorder such as a BMD Hyperdeck Shuttle-2 or Atomos Ninja-2 (unlike the GH2)...

... Or the GH3′s built-in codec must be relatively high-quality (without “too many” artifacts, far less noise, far less gradient banding artifacts, and improved dynamic range).

It’s OK with me if the live HDMI out is only 8-bit 4:2:0, but obviously 10-bit 4:2:2 would be better. 8-bit 4:2:0 can look pretty nice if it’s properly dithered (as with newer Sony & Canon cams).

And, for me, the “GH3″ must have a headphone jack (unlike the GH2).

Hopefully the “GH3″ will feature a much-improved JPEG stills engine! RAW is all well & good, but jeez, the inexpensive Fuji P&S I owned several years ago did a better job rendering JPEG stills than my GH1 or GH2.

But … I have my doubts the new “GH3″ (body only) will be readily available anytime soon in the US via reputable, authorized Panasonic dealers. In the case of both the GH1 & GH2, it was many months after their announcement that US customers could buy them through reputable, authorized US dealers.

Here’s hoping. We shall see.

I expect we will see at least 1-2 stops improvement in DR based on how sensor and processor technology is progressing in general. Hard to tell much from a YT video, but the quality of the motion definitely seems much improved at first glance. Much less rolling shutter apparent, as demonstrated by the shot of the driver from a car mount near the end. To even do 60p 1080 the readout has to be significantly faster than before.

I'll buy either a gh2 or a gh3 for glidecam work. Waiting for more footage and a good review now. I hope Mr. Bloom has a review in standby, waiting for the nda to lift off :)

Canon added 1k$ for their mark 3 over the mark 2, thinking people would buy it nevertheless. Don't know how it turned out for them but i wouldn't be very happy if we see a marginal leap in price for gh3. I hope it won't be expensive.

My 3 requirements for the gh3 were flippable lcd, good low light noise performance and 1080p60fps. It has the lcd that i want. Let's see how it'll turn out on the latter 2 aspects.

So, looking at the video again after a night's sleep, I got to thinking about something... I noticed last night that at 3:18 you can see "wifi" behind the shutter button. This morning, I noticed the shot at 2:25 of someone watching footage on a MacBook Pro.

Now, the MBP footage could just be someone reviewing footage after downloading it from the SD card, but WHAT IF this thing sends out video over WiFi, like a Teradek Cube? What else could WiFi be used for on a camera? I suppose remote control functionality or something like that, although Bluetooth would make more sense for that.

Anyway, linking those two shots made me dream. Imagine using your smartphone, tablet, laptop, any other WiFi computing device with a screen as a remote monitor, without any other equipment needed.

>.< It's so hard not to respond to some of these comments/questions.

Gonna be another long weekend.

Panisonic: So is the new gh3 promo vid complete?

mystery shooter: yup, looks great, i will post it up for you to check out.

Panisonic: What is gods name is that music in the backround, was your kid playing with Autotune.

Mystery shooter: ahhhh, ahhhh, yeah thats it. I ahhhhh was going to change that, I swear.

Seriously though, that backing track is one of the most obnoxious scores I have ever heard, bar none. It's really bad.

And think of what it will be able to do if Vitaly decides to hack this one as well (if it is feasible).

What makes you think it is going to be that much better than stock after Panasonic has already doubled and tripled the bit rates? Sure you might be able to get a fraction more out of it but really increasing the bit rate over stock with this camera will not be a necessity.

Soundtrack? What soundtrack?

Oh, you mean you guys have the sound turned on when you watch camera test and sample video clips?

Unless the clip is about the sound (which, unfortunately, it almost never is), I always turn the sound off before watching camera tests and sample video clips.

Big Tip: If you want to see what a video actually looks like, turn off the soundtrack!

I know you already know this, I'm just joking. Kinda. :-)

Perhaps Apple airplay? Imagine watching footage right from the camera through airplay on a retina iPad or better yet right to a 1080p Apple TV hooked up to a massive monitor. This really could be the direction in the future as opposed to a HDMI out. I would love to mount my iPad to my rig to use as a 10" HD monitor.
