GH3 GH3 Lens Quesion

Pretty vague question. What are you saying - that you're only gonna get one lens? If that's the question then I'd get the 12-35 zoom. It's plenty wide and hits a big fat sweet spot. But the whole idea of this kind of camera is to accumulate several lenses to cover the type of work you're gonna be doing. I ended up getting the 12-35 zoom, the Lumix 45-200 zoom and the Lumix 25mm f1.4 prime. I looked into the Noktor 17mm but for a prime - unless you're gonna have several primes - that's not my first choice. That's why the Noktor 25mm f0.95 is so popular - it hits that sweet spot focal length. I looked at that one myself and decided for that kind of lens I like the Lumix 25mm f1.4. It's better for me. Very yummy video image and a great portrait and still life lens at half the cost of the Voightlander 25mm, great in low light and it will talk to the GH3 (electronically) whereas the Noktor will not. Now that I have it and have seen what it can do I don't regret that choice. The SLR Magic 12mm field of view is covered very well by the 12-35 Lumix zoom so that one would'nt be on my short list. For a nice long reach zoom the 45-200 covers a lot of ground, is inexpensive and at 45mm is not a bad portrait lens but it's no good for an only lens. I also have a 40+ year old Ricoh 35mm film camera with several Pentax K-mount primes and a Vivitar zoom/macro therefore I got a Fotodiox Pentax P/K to M43 adaptor so now I have access to those lenses as well. My Pentax 50mm f2 prime has a nice rich look on the GH3 as does my Vivitar 80-200 zoom/macro when used as a macro. You can pick up those kind of lenses for a song on ebay. So to me the beauty of my GH3 is that every time I change lenses I essentially have a whole 'nuther camera.

12-35mm Lumix looks like a solid choice

12-35mm Lumix looks like a solid choice

Good thoughts on those lenses, Michael. I am looking for a step up from my current lenses (Lumix 12mm, 20mm, 14-140mm and SLR Magic 35mm/T1.4) for video work. Under the right conditions, I am happy with my lenses, but switching lenses and the lack of electronics with the SLR Magic 35mm can really slow me down. In good light, the 14-140 works pretty well for me. The Lumix 12-35mm is in the focal range that I shoot most, that one is on my short list.
